I have had polar tip-ups for atleast 10 years but am now starting to purchase the frabbil yellow tip-ups not that there is anything wrong with the polars just that the Frabbils are about 2" longer and the spring seems to be stronger to lift up the lights I use on them. New polars probably would have a stronger spring than my old ones. But I do like the Frabbils being longer

For big fish, the Frabill Bigfoot Classic Wooden Tip-up is the most effective tip-up I've ever used...bar none.

My buddy purchased the First Ice tip ups and they do not have any lubrication in the shafts.  You pay for what you get.

Polar traps are great if the snow is down but like any othertrap.... jack trap, heritage, etc if used right based on conditions at the time both species your fishing for or outside conditions can be deadly.....sometimes it takes more than just drilling a hole and sticking a trap in it.........those days could be real long.

I don't recommend them if you fish in area with lots of snow. If you're stick tip ups are breaking, get some better quality ones. Heritage Lakers, Allegash Traps, or Jacktraps will last you a very long time, I personaly like green 40 ups. they are easy to see and great quality for about 11 or 12 bucks a pop.
