Tip-up/Trap Mods
« on: Jan 19, 2007, 08:51 PM »
Okay, I've been playing around with these new Jack Traps I have for about a week now.  I've put reflective tape on the uprights and epoxied the split ring in place on the end of the flag spring to make it easier to set.  It doesn't seem like it would take too much to tune up the reels with some teflon washers to make them a little smoother.  It has me wondering if a guy could build some sort of wing-nut tensioning device onto the shaft or even incorporating a ball bearing assembly to really make it super smooth...I know a bit overkill but that's the point.  As good as these tip-ups are, what are some of the modifications you have made to your traps...Jacks, Lakers, Nor'easters, etc.?

I put a stop down by the reel to lock it in place, and a spring on the upright to put my hook on.  This allows me to keep my leader straight during transport and storage.  I love this setup. I'll try to post a pic or two.

Great idea with the epoxy on the split ring.  I'll try that one.
