I have the 788ci which is very similar to the 688ci. I use it on my boat and have also used it for ice fishing. It has worked very well on the ice.

All the brands are good and will get you more fish.  Your wallet will be your best guide.  But if you want the very best SONAR, and what the majority of professionals use (both sponsored & independent pros), get a Vexilar.   ;D

I am switching over to garmin I am liking a lot better then my humming birds and the price is good
