Question about stocking program Frontenac area.
« on: Jan 12, 2019, 03:40 PM »
Who decides what lakes get stocked and can we submit a request?

I have a cottage on Farren Lake and up until 2009 I think it was stocked with splake.

I’d like to find out if it could be stocked in the future or if it can be stocked at the lake owners expense.

Stocking correlates with public access but I think you can pay privately for stocking.  You probably have to contact MNR and pay for water sampling, suitability etc.  I used to catch splake in Draper lake but they stopped stocking it.

The Ontario Put-Grow-Take program is kind  of a unique angler tourism thing.

Lake needs to have public access above all. If not, no public funds will support fish put in to the lake. Next is suitable lake chemistry.  If that is another issue, then unlikely to be stocked.
