New Semi Sleeper Build
« on: Aug 24, 2014, 05:54 PM »
Well after two years of sweet talking and a 66 of Crown Royal, this little beauty is my next project. It's a 8' wide 5' deep and 6'5" height. I just dropped it in my driveway today, but the plan is to gut it out take off the back flaps, and cut the front flush, then make a wall. Put it up on skids and should be ready to roll. Plan is for 4 holes.

It's aluminum and fibreglass, so it's super light. I gutted it tonight, and two guys could easily lift one end into the box of a truck. I would say it would weigh less than a wood shack of the same size. It's a hell of allot lighter than my 12'X8' beast mode shack, it's heavy as hell.

The alcove at the back of the cab could be enclosed to create a lockable closet where you could store stuff. I can see vertical auger mount, propane tank(s), battery storage and shelves for other stuff.

The flaps on the back are removed so that it is narrow enought to get into the back of my truck.

Haven't thought of a name yet, still wrestling with how to make the hole layout, had it tipped over yesterday to look at the underside of the floor and my original plan of three holes along the back won't work. Once I get the wall up I'll have a better idea of what I can fit for a layout.

It's 6'5 tall, perfect so you can stand up and stretch your legs without having to go outside.

Wasn't planning on doing anything tonight but the wife started watching Fashion Police on E and I had to get the hell out of there. Hummed and hawed on the hole locations but then just went for it, it will be three holes strait across, it will cause a headache for the one skid but I'll cross that hurdle when I get there. A couple pictures, the centre hole installed and one of the side holes cut out.

I think ANYTHING on the E! network is worth leaving the room and doing something better! But yeah, the shack looks amazing and with the hole placement, I think it looks fine.

Battled the flu all week, so didn't get much done until today, finished all three holes, and installed mounting for my big buddy heater, next up will be framing in the open side with 2x2 frame, osb and tin, will have to do a combination of liquid nail and screws going from wood to aluminum. I'll post up pictures when I have something a little more exciting that three PVC hole covers installed.

Made some good progress tonight.

Ran out of light and figured id pickup tomorrow, frame the door finish the tin and a can of spray foam and the wall should be done. Then all that's left is the skids and tow bar. Will post up more as I progress.

Saturday morning. All that's left is the skids and tow bar. Maybe some rubber flooring, we will see what I can find on the cheap.
