Moose Rescued In Washington
WASHINGTON, N.H. -- Crews rescued an exhausted young moose that was unable to stand on an icy pond in Washington on Tuesday.
Officials from the state Fish and Game Department and Washington Fire and Rescue worked together to help the moose after police were called to Butterfield Pond at Pillsbury State Park about 10 a.m.
Police said the moose had been on the ice about 70 yards from the shore for more than 24 hours but couldn't get any footing on the ice because of a lack of snow cover.
Conservation officers were able to place a sling attached to a rope around the moose, and they and firefighters then slid the moose to the shore.
Once on solid ground, the moose was able to stand on its own, and officials eventually herded it away from the ice and into the woods
