Drove by East Bay 2 days ago and there was only a bit of skim ice in some shallow areas.  Most areas were still wide open.

With the forecasted temps for the next 10 days I would say there is a chance it could happen.

Looks like it's at least started to ice up? I don't see any ripples of water on this webcam.

They showed on TV tonight that it was frozen over. So maybe it will be safe this year again

Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

They said that how they determine if it is frozen all the way over is the bay has to be ice covered for 24 hours at power island. With all the snow we got the last few days hopefully the wind blew it off the ice

I haven't been able to get out as much this year as I would like.

I did stop down to check the ice though. was able to get about 20' or so off the boat launch at Clinch Park.
Some areas it took two hits to get through, other areas one hit went through.
I didn't measure the ice but I would guess 1 1/2" to 2" where I was checking.

The half-hour I was there, at least 15 guys stopped to see if it was ready yet

I saw one guy out there fishing and it looks like he accessed from the beach, which may have better ice.

It's 40 degrees and raining off and on right now, it will improve if it cools off. I'm just not a fan of fishing skinny ice on big water.

Clinch Park can be a smorgasbord when you can fish it. I try to get a close to the river as whats reasonable for Browns and Steelies.
I have iced some nice browns there. Set up like you are fishing for walleye. If you use tip-ups run the minnows higher off the bottom then you would for walleyes.

Away from the river, the perch fishing can be very good, but they were on the small side last year.

Whitefish and Menominee are also targeted and can get hot at times.

I go a little deeper for the Lakers, but they do catch them shallow as well.

Bryant Park can be good as well but I target mainly Perch when I go there.

Good luck all

I haven't personally been out, but I've heard the fish are running very small and the angler pressure is insane. I drove by Clinch yesterday and there had to have been at least 75 shanties in a space the size of a football field.

I was in that mess of shanties today. We started out a little further and did not get a bite in 100 fow, moved around looking for a laker or a cisco with no luck. Then we moved in to about 55 fow and started catching small perch. We caught about a hundred perch and left the ice with 4 10-12IN and 10 8-10. Ice is in good shape and about 6-7 inches with minimal snow on top. Wear slip prevention.

Every time I check the webcam there is only ever anybody out of Clinch fishing over towards the mouth of the river. Is this the only place with good ice, or do most people just like perch fishing out there? I realize you can also catch trout there, but it was filled with a billion dink perch the last 3 times we went out there. Do the shipwrecks out there hold fish in the winter, or are they too hard to try and find through the ice? Also, does anyone know the conditions on East Bay?
Thanks

When I fished Skegemog a few days ago there were people out on East Bay off Acme creek and others further north off Deepwater point. I would only guess that the ice would be OK as that bay was froze over a few days before the west bay.

Better get out there this year if you want to fish lakers through the ice...
