As all you die hard's remember, this was going last year so we may as well do it again this year. It is just a thread that mean's absolutly nothing but gives us all a spot to post in the summer. Feel free to post anything about nothing ???. My weather report for today is sunny and hot in this part of the world with no ice in the near future :'(. Golf game is good though.
Jim
-
I check in here every day, even in the summer.
By the way, watch yer language 'round here, eh?
G@!F is a four-letter-word ya know :P
-
I hope and pray that this coming ice season is better then the one that just passed.
I made it out less then a dozen times this past year, anything over that would be a improvement.
-
I'm sad because its another 8 months to get on the ice . :'( I'm counting the days down alrighty so bring it on fast . ;D
TD
-
I've still got ice my neck of the woods....IN MY GLASS!!! let the countdown for subzero begin....Grump ;D
-
I've still got ice my neck of the woods....IN MY GLASS!!! let the countdown for subzero begin....Grump ;D
subzero... Oh, that's right.... That silly metric system ;D
-
I'm with you Jim ;D ;D
I heard the burn ban around here was lifted, lots to burn this weekend in the rain..............
Rumors of a new Marcum flasher/camera combo unit persist............... ..you heard it here first...... ;D ;D ;D
-
Preacherman and I caught 9 crappies yesterday that were 11-1/2" to 14-1/4" in
the same spot we caught them thru the ice. We used 1/4 oz red ball jig head with
a 2" white twister tail. Also caught a few nice pickerel. Only 8+ months until hard
water season.
-
Hey, everybody! Yeah, sucky ice fishing season here in southeast Michigan. Here's hoping next season is a major improvement. I've got a new Vex just waiting to go on it's maiden voyage! I'll be checking in often this spring-summer-fall as I did last year. Tight lines to all.
-
HAPPY FRIDAY ;D ;D ;D ;D
On a positive note, 55mph really does save gas on my hour commute to work ;D
The negative side is that I've become a traffic hazzard :( :(
-
Oh No, Byron you got a job? Hope it's one of those that only last during the warm month's. Just kiddin buddy, good luck with the fishing this summer and keep that kayak upright ;)
Jim
-
Finally hit the golf course yesterday and I think I will stick to fishing. It was an ugly site for the first time this year. Now baseball coaching will take up my time until the middle of July. :-\
-
Hey Fellas, liven in the flatlands must suck, we are headed out (northwest Wyo) tomarrow to cut some holes, and jig for macs probubly the last weekend though, then spring bear season, or mabye spring beer season, something like that. Looking forward to hopping around in the dirt, instead of all this snow.
-
Got about 6 hrs on the new outboards and new boat. Got the camper and small boat out of storage today. The down side is that it is also time to get out the lawnmower, weed eater and tiller. Rats!!! :( The high point is that I'm going fishing tomorrow. ;D
-
Hi guy's, it's just another rainy day here in Pa that we can cross off the calender in our quest to walk on water again :'(
Jim
-
Yea Jim, had to get a job :( :( :( but with some planing I hope to be unemployed by first ice..........poverty is not always a bad thing ;D ;D
And yes, it sure is a rainy day.......
-
I ran fuel stabilizer in my power augers yesterday and put them away for the summer :'( :'( Time to break out the lawnmower!!!!!! :P
Lucky You ! Ibroke mine out three weeks ago and I'm ready to mow for the third time when it quits raining !
-
Yup, I'll be mowing this week................st ill got leaves to rake ??? ???
-
THe leaves arent even popping out here yet the water temps are still in the low 40's :) and we just recieved 2" of rain here over the weekend. 2 months of warm weather and it will be getting cold again :)
-
Look out now, frost warning the end of the week ;D. It's gonna get cold soon
Jim
-
a little under 8 mos and ill be back on the ise...hopefully!! i was wondering when this thread would pop up jim!! new lx5 on the way thanks to jackmagnum! cant wait to try that baby out!!
-
I'm already planning what lakes to hit for next year and to ask "santa" for a Vex. ;D
-
Jim, frost warning?? Really?? Maybe I'll turn on the weather chanell............... and fire up the auger ;D ;D ;D
Just wondering............. am I the only one who thinks it's easier to fire up the auger for five min, once a week all summer than to properly winterize it??
-
Byron keep that Auger running between you and skip having a power auger did not have to "spud" many holes this year therefor less exercise = more weight. Now it get even harder to stay under 200lbs its the season for massive weight gains due to the dreaded "B and B syndrom" BOAT AND BEER" FRED
-
I am almost positive I am getting a Vex for my birthday from my wife!
Good women are hard to find, I think Ive got a keeper!
-
They're talking that there is a chance of snow here . :o Oh yeah baby bring on the ice . Auger is still gassed up in back of truck and Marcum is charged up too .I'm ready . ;D
TD
-
Well lads she snowed last night . It's a good sign ,no. ??? ;D
TD
-
here we say we have 9 months of winter and 2 of poor sledding
-
Trapper, don't get rid of your old gas till next year. It might be 10 bucks a gallon till next year.
Jim
-
just want to say hi to all you diehards! ;D
-
Just replying so that some one replies to this thread every day!
-
Pace yourself Mainedog, we always need something to rush us around in december :D
Jim
-
:'( :'(Had 2-3 inches of snow here day before yesterday. Made me think of hard water and iceshanty. WIll be quite a while till ice on. Had to hit the soft water last week caught some really nice walleyes in the 19 -22" range made me kinda happy, still would rather have my water hard ;)
-
Hi folks, I got an idea late into the ice fishing season. I want to build my own light weight, portable, easy to pull, fully enclosed, floating ice sled. Reading a lot of posts on this site, there seems to be good number of members that are looking for ways to make their sleds easier to pull when there is snow on the ice. My idea is to have 2 pontoon like devices, perhaps made with formed R-board, and encased in fiberglass, just one idea, with aluminum tubing joining the 2 structures, with a collapsible chair. I also feel, once the prototype is built, I'm also thinking it could be used for flotation. Would a rope ladder work ? just in case the unforseen happens. Any ways, if I inspired anyone else, great. I really think there is room for improvement, and safety. Thats my project before next ice.
-
Sounds like that should keep you busy for a while ;D ;D, take some pics in the building process.
-
Frost this morning!
-
will be 30 at night here for a week wont be long :roflmao: :roflmao:
-
It for some reason just seems right to post on here. can't really explain it. It just seems right. Happy summer everyone.
-
had a heavy frost yesterday. dreamin' of ice... ;D
-
You guys will just have to put up with me... this is the only forum that I ever found that I really liked. Great advice, active and great moderators to keep things on the level, Everyone really adds something positve all the time. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping me have a great first year on the ice. Learned a lot and will be thinking of the ice all summer. And stopping in here to see whats going on...
-
It's good to have you on board, Swede. I like to hear what other fish are caught under the ice in different countries. I would like to be able to get some of the jigs they use over in Sweden. The only ones we can get here are the fiskas.
-
Yes Swede,
I have to agree with what Bean said.........., can you post some pics of the jigs you guys use?
I've been lucky enough to have fished in Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and France...........but never through the ice. Maybe someday ;D ;D
-
Slipbob, if your gonna talk like that go back over to MFF where you belong. :-*
Jim
-
Stop it now oc, the best time of year is coming next Saturday. ;) I love the ice and all but it just doesn't hold a candle to "open water walleye" fishing. :D
Hopefully, this will be in my dreams on Sat night as I look forward to the first eye fry of the year:
fish n' chips!
-
That fish fry looks awesome oc. Soon, very soon the sweet taste of super fresh "sushi-grade" walleye will cross my lips. ;D
Deepfried walleye is always great, but there is something special about cooking in cast iron over an open flame... ;D
-
My two little boys and myself have one of the portables set up in the basement. They sit in there and pretend to fish. My older son James (4 years old) doesn't like to fish in the boat, he says there is no room to play. I have taken them out in the boat twice this year and all James still talks about is the hardwater. Brent will be two years old before next season, thats plenty old to get him started on the ice. You gotta get them boys away from Mom, and teach them man stuff!

For sure, I've had my son on the ice at 3 months old. ;D But, was actively fishing on the ice at 3 years old. He loved going out on the ice with me this past year at 5 years old, he was my lucky charm. ;D Can't wait for next ice season, but for now we have a great open water season ahead of us.
-
Two season's ago I took both my kid's on their first trip icefishing and was looking forward to taking them some last season. With the horrible ice conditions that we had here all winter I just didn't feel safe taking them along with me. I sure hope this upcoming season has some better ice so they can go along.

It doesn't matter what you're cooking, either. My buddy and I went up to his place in Ontario at the end of last October to get some late season fishing in. Saturday night, we made a small bonfire outside, started a smaller cooking fire, and brought out the XM satellite radio. We put a package of sauerkraut in a cast iron pan, buried eight Johnsonville beer brats in it, and dumped an Ithaca Pale Ale over the top. The brats cooked for evenly-matched two periods, until the Sabres had a come from behind 6-4 victory in the third. We jumped and yelled around the fire while munching down the brats and more Ithacas, and listened to ourselves echoing across the lake. The Isles announcer calls a great game, btw.
-
thats one beautiful sunset
-
Nice description Chucker....
I often sit on my storage shed steps, listening to the Red Sox on the radio, while sipping a cold brew.
Below is a picture of my view. I am usually wondering about how many more days until I can get the ice shack out of storage about this time of year.
Beautiful!
I'm jealous as all heck!
-
I'm off to the trout stream in the morning after I put my son on the bus and dragging along a new member "jflood" and going to share some knowledge and show'm the ropes. ;D
And then on Tuesday night, got plans to hit the river bank for some kitty action with good 'ol pal "Deposit". Hope that it clouds up and rains a little bit to intensify the bite. ;) :D
-
Mainedog, that is almost a picture perfect sunset. I must say though it would look better if that was an ice hut on the lake instead of a boat :'(
Jim
-
nice sunset 'dog...
-
now thats better!! every lake looks better FROZEN!! even though that is a beatiful sunset! UPS guy showed up today and brought me a new LX-5!! i cant wait for first ice!!!
-
How did you know it was sunset and not sunrise, Skipper?
It was sunset. Parts of Maine remind me of Minnesota.
We just don't have Walleyes; some pike, but those are
illegal introductions.....
Just guessed, sure looked like a thousand sunsets Ive seen here in Minnesota. I appreciate such things, and make time to not miss them. A guy only gets to see the sun rise and set so many times in his life.
-
WELL .....IT FINALLY GOT HERE ........My Vexilar FL-20/AV..........it is the flasher with the aqua vu feature ......has a split screen , flasher on right and Aqua-vu on the left .......COMES WITH AN BUILT IN POWER AUGER ALSO ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;Dwell ,,,,,,maybe soon
-
Well I finally took the power auger out of the truck yesterday even though our ice has been gone for close to two weeks on the lakes that hold it last in my area and coming home from work this a.m. I saw some guy waterskiing . :'( Oh I be so,so sad but the countdown is on till all is well in the world again . ;D
TD
-
Polar Bear, I looked at one of those the other day and was gonna get one except I didn't think that I could deal with the flasher on the right. I think I will contact vex and special order one with the flasher on the left :roflmao: and if that doesn't work then I'll just have to flip it up side down and use it that way.
Jim
-
Polar Bear....
Were you being serious about the Vex20 AV?? I mounted my marcum below the AV scout last year, all in one unit and it makes hole hoping much easier, will dig up a pic. I heard rumors that Marcum was working on a combo unit. Sure would be nice.
-
some trees were polinating today that reminded me of snow. Snow doesent make my nose run and my eyes water like tose darn trees though! ;D
-
I said a little word to the icegods last night and they told me we would be on ice before long ??? I sure hope it was real and not just a dream.
Jim
-
The Farmers Alminac say's it's a good year for ice this next season !!!
It's usually rite on so let's hope .
Anythings better than what we had this past season .
-
this year i'm gonna wait to bring out the snowblower till i need it. what was i thinking last year having it all ready
-
OH, so it was all your fault ifishhi. I'll remember that ;)
Jim
-
lol ;D Nothing like a good state of unpreparedness to bring onn those things whitch we really love huh. Id rather be sittin on the ice trying to sort through my conglomeration of not so well kept fishing stuff than sittin on the garage floor lookin at a bunch of neatly well organized gear and wishin i was fishin. and i think you should have to clean out the gum and turpintine out of the carbs and fuel lines till theres 12" of snow and ice. All this and maybe the ice gods would bless us by halloween ;D
-
forecast in the low 70's for tomorrow...no ice in sight :-\ the weatherman says we got just under 4" of rain in the last 2 days...as much as i miss the ice , im glad it wasnt snow
-
We have had cold enough nights here to ward away the bugs, but when it warms up they are gonna make up for lost time! :%$#!:
-
well the weatherman was right...it was warm today...im sure we didnt make any ice last night and its not looking good for tonight :'( placed an order of top secret custom jigs recently...i wouldnt want to be a crappie in southern maine in dec of this year
-
I am looking at a new wheeler for fishing next winter. Its a new Honda Rubicon 500, I told the salesman I was going to sleep on it and get back to him by saturday. Any imput would be apreciated. I think I will go check out some Yamahas before I load anything up and take it home first. What do you think? ???
-
No Challenge ! Always Ride Red ! :)

can't go wrong with Honda or Yamaha.
-
Ive settled on the rubicon, but I think I will shop around some more. This dealer is so cheap he wont even throw in a free hat.
-
Had to scrape the windshield of ice yesterday in the a.m. and likely again today . ;D
TD
-
May 6th and I've got a good frost this morning which is pretty normal for my area. Hopefully come fall we will have normal temps with frosts starting around the first week of september. Last fall I don't think I had a frost until late october which had me very worried about early ice. :-\ Even still the ice did form around an average date and I was ice fishing on Nov 26th. 8)

-

Slap him in the face with cash and you'll get your hat !!
Cash always does the trick . :)
-
I always had Honda's before but a few years ago I bought an Arctic Cat and love it. The honda that I had was a racing machine and I kinda grew out of that stage. Thats the only reason I got rid of it. Oh yea, the icefishing sucks this time of the year :'(
Jim
-
i was on the ocean all day today...i kept a sharp eye to the north in hopes of catching a glimpse of an iceberg, but all i saw was about twenty whales, half a dozen harbor porpoises and some fresh haddock for supper...no ice. still a great day at sea!!
-
I'm glad to hear you had a good day at sea Scotty. Hope your arm's hurt when you got back to dock ;). Tell me though, just exactly what were you gonna do if you would have seen an iceburg :o
Jim
-
Did you stand in the bow, lean out on the rail, spread your arms and yell, "I'm king of the Ice Shanty!"?
I DID!! there were no icebergs in sight but it was beatiful no matter where ya looked!
-
Just saying hello ;D ;D fished LB state park today, caught two jumbo perch and a bunch of decent crappie, man I hope we have good ice this year............
-
In summer, when I get off work early I mow lawn. :'(
In winter, when I get off work early I fish! ;D
-
These dang crappie's aren't near as fun on 6' rod's as they are on 2 footers but at least there biting ;)
Jim
-
Big smelly fat carp are fun on a 6' pole! ;)
-
Had to scrape the raindrops from Saturday night off of the canoe paddles on Sunday morning. It was a tad nippy, you could say.
-
well ...............I am sure the ice will be comming soon .......just look at the thermometer, the temperature is allready falling ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
why ice them, when there easier on the open water. ;)
But I'll be waiting for that 1st ice fishing trip come Christmas. ;D
-
Camo, thats exactly why I like to get them in the winter. There too easy on the open water ;)
Jim
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/cjorwig/ice%20fishing/bigcrappieII0305.jpg)
-
Uh....I'd just like to catch one period! Here's hoping my fishing luck changes soon! :-[
-
Braggers ;)
-
Tell me though, just exactly what were you gonna do if you would have seen an iceburg :o
Jim
what else? start drilling...too deep for my lx-5 though :-\
-
4 more sleeps until general opening for fishing here.....had the chainsaw going this afternoon.....cool northwesterly winds felt like snow coming....dreaming of getting the Green Machine setup on ice....lol....Grump >:(
-
I found some ice jigs today in a bargain bin. Man they were waaaay cheap! They were even Lindy techniglo!
-
ahaha, i was just checking in here, and didnt realize there was people still talking here. caught over 60 trout so far this year since the beg. of april.
-
I'm missin' icefishin' :'(
But the stream trout are biting
-
what store? where?
Mills Fleet Farm, St. Cloud MN. But that does you no good in Maine!
-
Road Trip :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
Jim
-
C.C................... ...you read my mind, how good are those prices?????? ;D ;D
-
The jigs are $1.25 a card, they are usually $2.49. Gas just jumped to $2.95 per gallon here. Perhaps a moped road trip would be more economical. ;D
-
You guys could start the PA. chapter of the IS Moped motorcycle gang and ride to St Cloud!!! :woot:
-
I'm fueling up the ped now 8)
Jim
-
I'm always looking for jigs when I go down the fishing isles. You never know what you may find in the middle of the summer. ;D
-
Just checkin in.
-
I'm afraid that would be a bit of a road trip for me. I'll just have to be glad for my fellow IC's
finding a good bargin. You'll just have to wait a bit to try out the new gear!
I seem to have accumulated a bit myself that will have to wait until next January until I can give it a
try.... Oh, well. That gives me so much more time to read all the good stuff on ICs in the mean time!
But we got Mardens up here lol
-
Minnesota's Walleye opener is tomorrow, the weather forcast is in 40s rain and sleet. Ish :P
-
had 4" of snow yesterday in upper peninsula of michigan, felt like november. oh well only 6-7 months to early ice.
-
CNY ICE REPORT
Had great ice today! Caught half a dozen bottle bass. I checked the guide and am pretty sure they were all legal (12 ounce minimum). The nice thing about them is you get a nickle a pelt for them after you gut them. I wonder if we can talk the course owner into letting us borrow one of his carts to get onto the ice next winter. ;D It's going to be a long summer.
-
I've often wondered how a golf cart would do on the ice..............let us know ;D ;D
-
How come in the summer we've got frost and in the winter its global warming. Hope this winter is better than last. Got a new FL-18 later in the winter and got to use it once. Oh well maybe I'll put it on the boat. I just got some of the ice runners for the bottom of my Quick Flip II so maybe I'll work on them today. Steve
-
RAIN,RAIN,RAIN!!!! We need it here but damn it's depressing :'(
Jim
-
RAIN,RAIN,RAIN!!!! We need it here but damn it's depressing :'(
Jim
Not as depressing as living in NH right now.
-
we no longer need it here in southern maine thanks...good thing it isnt winter or id be going in and out of the second floor windows :-\
-
Well lads I just picked up a new Otter Wilderness series flipover portable shanty and also a sweet little Abu reel to hang on another ice rod . Where did I store my new flipover you ask . ??? Well I flipped the bed up against the wall in spare room and there in its place sits my new portable with me in it even at times . ;D No sheet . LOL ;)
TD
-
Here's what happen's when you get new toy's to use and there's no ice. I got to try out the vex, otter, jiggin rod, rod holder, and a IS hat. My wife thought that I was loosing it when she came to the basement to take the pic. I think with a little time and a deep freeze I could make enough ice for a little IS get together :o
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/cjorwig/fun%20pics/firstonice.jpg)
Jim
-
C.C.
Man, I understand fully! Here's hoping for a long and cold winter!
-
Jim now I'm convinced you are totally opsessed by Hardwater borderimg on possesed. However I'm not far behind FRED
-
The last of my waxies died, poor little buggers. ;D
-
My wife thought that I was loosing it when she came to the basement to take the pic. I think with a little time and a deep freeze I could make enough ice for a little IS get together :o
Flood the basement, and start dumping in bags of ice. ;)
-
Install three dozen wall unit air conditioners to firm it all up. ;)
-
CC, count me in.................... ... ;D ;D
Spudster, been meaning to shoot an email, how's Dad doing.............
-
Byron, you must really be missin the hard water. You've already posted more this spring than all of last open water season :oStick around all summer and maybe you can teach me a thing or two ;)
Jim
-
Or better yet, I can learn a thing or two ;) ;)
-
I'm meeting up with Polar Bear today for a little crappie fishing and maybe a little scouting for the hard water season ;D
Jim
-
And a big welcome to the new guy who made 9 posts between 6:26 and 6:34 am this morning ;D ;D ;D Let me see, that comes to one every fifty seconds or so.................... .......
Noticed Charlie here today also ;D
Jim, good luck on the crappies, looks like a beutiful day....
-
I know where you're heading CC  Pick me out a good place for next hardwater so I can make up for all the missed fishing I am having this spring. After baseball season is over in late June you will find on the river every weekend.
-
IN, old buddy, we got you a good spot all picked out but I don't think you can get there from where you live :-*
Jim
-
I always plot out locations in the summer on my gps, so I can return to them in the winter. I find it faster than drilling tons of holes. Its nice to have 10 or 15 spots plotted out and identified before you even head out on first ice, it saves tons of time. I couldn't survive without my gps.
-
the forcast for the adirondacks monday may 22 is snow. maybe some early ice????? old ken
-
MDog
wouldn't it be great though if you had a GSP trained to "point" you to those fishing spots?
could be even better than a GPS, eh?
-
Jack Frost made an appearance in the northern half of Minnesota this morning.
many temps in the 20's
a couple places got down to as low as 17
Mother Nature can be such a tease :-* :'(
-
Frost warning's here tonight also. I hope it kills all my grass ;D
Jim
-
woo hoo, it was snowing here yesterday morning, frost advisories last night and tonight and so far it hassnt gotten out of the 40's yet today
-
Frost warning's here tonight also. I hope it kills all my grass ;D
Jim
how great would that be...i wish the fish grew like may dand lawn does...id need some bigger gear...now i just need a bigger mower :-\

You betcha! I had to get the scrape my windshield this morning. My wife is freaking out because she didn't have her flowers covered. I told her it can frost clear up till memorial day here, but she wouldn't listen. She got a big ol told ya so!
-
I would have no idea why you guys would want to go ice fishing. The cold weather is for polar bears and you can't catch any fish while sitting on the ice. ???
I was trying to talk myself out of missing ice for a while and it only worked for about 1 1/2 seconds ;D I think I'm gonna go get a job digging post holes just so I can dream about drilling holes
Jim
-
BRRR... sure felt like late October here this morning. ;D Gotta love that smell in the air when it is cold and crisp. Of course my wife thinks I'm :cookoo:
-
Who would have guessed, yesterday I scrape my windsheild, today its 86 degrees!
-
no frost...no ice...no hope of walking on water for a while here in southern maine :-\ ... guess ill go striper fishing till late fall~~
-
GOOD IDEA Scotty, maybe I'll just do the same
Jim
-
Who would have guessed, yesterday I scrape my windsheild, today its 86 degrees!
So ...
what I gather from those facts is this:
Not only can Mother Nature be quite a tease
She is also extremely fickle

yeah but she is an odd one.
shell screw you if you NOT nice to her

Have a good trip Dog, I'm leaving for a three day camping trip this afternoon with the family. Hopefully I'll find some eye's and stripers. I feel sure if there's no fish there will be some screaming kid's to occupy my time :'(
Jim
-
Have a good weekend Jim, weather looks great, for camping that is.
I have no plans at all ???
-
I don't get much of a weekend, I have to work Saturday and Monday. :(
-
just checking in and saying hey
-
i miss my ice :'( getting a job this summer for some new ice toys ;D im seeing a vex or marcum flasher and a eskimo or jiffy power auger along with 2 new jigging rods and reels and 2 new tip-ups ;)

im gonna be digging alot of post holes this summer... just getting my arm ready for the ice incase i dont get my gas auger. tree roots are hard to dig through :-\
-
im seeing a vex or marcum flasher and a eskimo or jiffy power auger
good thing its not january...a post like that would start a WAR ;D just for the record...go marcum and go sekimo...FIRE 1 !
-
Supposed to be 90° (or close to it) today and tomorrow. Disgusting.

Supposed to be 90° (or close to it) today and tomorrow. Disgusting.
Try working out in it. >:(
-
Pretty much spent the whole long weekend sitting around getting sun burnt >:(I would much rather sit on the ice and get wind burnt. I know how you feel Hali but not any more for me ;)now it's only when I'm golfing that I spend alot of time in the sun, well, maybe a little fishin too.
Jim

Its hot here too, the pigs stink awful!
-
Just like CC I spent the weekend getting scorched on the river. Did I mention fishing sucks when it is this hot. ??? The river levels were at Mid July levels and clear, which made the fishing tough. I told my buddy now I know why I like ice fishing better. ;D
-
Hey, just checking in. Agreed, Icenutter....ice fishing is so much better, in my opinion. I charged the Vex the other day. Here's hoping for a real heavy duty cold snap in mid to late November that just sticks around till mid March!
-
good thing its not january...a post like that would start a WAR ;D just for the record...go marcum and go sekimo...FIRE 1 !
Thats one view?
VEX are nice machines, love mine.
There is no war, like mexico fighting the USA., wouls say canada but that would cause too many problems.
GO SABRES GAME 7

Try working out in it. >:(
I worked in the AC, then went to an arena with a big ol' sheet of ice instead. ;D
-
I hate the heat and humidity...... Im glad this heat wave is comming to an end.... It is supposed to be in the low to mid 70's all weekend. Its not 20's and 30's but it will do for now. I cant wait untill ice season this year. It seems that I blew my load for big fish to early in the season last year....I caught a placing fish in several categories before the tourney started....Atleast i got the one fish that I wanted to catch this past winter..... the mighty perch..... I'll be gunning for a three peat next season. I have three lakes that i know bigger perch swim in than i caught.... next year i trying for a 16 plus incher :o ;D ;D
Untill next year all i can do is dream of drilling holes and hunting perch.

We just thought maybe you had to go see "Dora the Explorer" again. ;D Mark, I got your message the other day. I have been really busy the past few weeks and didn't want you to think I was ignoring your calls. Jim, I think you have too much free time on your hands to be going out and playing golf tournies. I think you should share your winnings with all us local IS guys so we can have some fun too. :woot:
-
We just thought maybe you had to go see "Dora the Explorer" again.
LMAO. That's too funny!!! :roflmao: :roflmao:
-
Funny thing about Dora.... She bumped Sabres-Sens in the second round in Ottawa, but by God that doesn't happen in Oil Country! She got bumped so they could have the Cup Finals Game 6 (if they ever get there) on schedule.
-
I'm so confused ;) I beleive we're talking about two different "Dora's"

ONLY 202 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS . THAT MEANS ONLY ABOUT 190 UNTIL GOOD ICE !!!
-
Just thought I'd throw my .02 in here. That's what this thread is for, right?
I'm not going to complain about the lack of ice.
If it wasn't for summer I wouldn't have any money to ice-fish...
I've been designing with new software and enjoying the day.
Tight lines, everyone!

Hali-man made a great point. Since I really hope to be unemployed again this winter, I guess I need summer to stock up.
C.C. I'd like to check that suit out sometime, does it provide insulation as well as floatation?
-
Byron, you will be more than welcome to check it out. I'll be the only one with a purple hut and an all orange survival suit ;D According to Slip bob they are a great suit, water proof, wind proof, warm and not all that bulky. Bring on the skim ice!!!!!
Jim
-
Jim I'm with you or at least behind you 2" i'm there FRED
-
Hey Spud.........if you see this today, check your email at work. You can reply by PM here.......
C.C. I'll be the guy with the rescue rope, and the camera ;D

Exactly. Ice fishing isn't a fashion show it's about getting as many of those big tasty panfish in the bucket as quick as possible. ;)
Amen brother, and open water is only for scouting out good spot's to do that :flex:
Jim

Ah, you guys are lucky ;). My roomate gets laid off alot in the winter and he's my main fishing partner...all day long the texts roll in..."Man I'm just slaying em"..you're missing out today!" etc. :-\ lol
-
There's no luck involved. Work long hard hours in the summer, avoid silly things like car payments and expensive beer, and save pennies. ??? ??? Then quit your job in the winter ;D ;D
It helps if you are used to being poor and have a very understanding spouse.
-
It helps if you.... have a very understanding spouse.
Where can you find one of those? ;D
-
Check on EBAY, they have anything you could ever want ;D

If you see Santa, tell him I need a new four wheeler! ;D

I'm in for sure. I just got my survival suit yesterday and it looks like it will be awsome. I think it would work at the north pole and any other place it is cold but it was way way way too warm in Pa. to wear it last night :'(
Jim
-
Thank's buddy, it took me about 10 second's to figure that out(I'm quick) ;D
Jim
-
Yeah I forgot to tell you, don't wear your Mustang in the summer, just use a regular life vest when in the boat. ;D
its more comfortable than you think if you just pack it full of ice ;D

This past winter was horrible it's scary when days in May were colder than January. Lets hope for a good cold winter this year.
I want enough cold to get me out on foot by Thanksgiving, on wheeler by mid December, and in my truck by New Years.
Any colder than this is a waste. I love winter, but I could sure live without -40F.
-
Well, negative forty is something we do not have around here.
But if I had my choice between a season low of negative forty or positive forty................. ............... ???
-
I guess I will take it anyway I can get it!
Lord, please send ice, and have mercy on my propane bill.
-
Well, other than checking in here..........the last 36 hours has been spent preparing for the mighty Susquehanna to crest sometime early AM on Thurs. Sleep will be so nice :P
I feel safe, the neighbors are all taken care of, the johnboat is tied to the roof.................. . >:(with freash gas........
Goodnight............. ....
-
Good luck Byron, let us know how you weathered the storm. If there's anything I can do, give me a shout.
Jim
-
The river has been kept at bay ;D, now it's just a matter of waiting for the water to drop, so I can put on the hipboots and try to net all the carp out of the yard before they die. Talk about a stinky mess >:( >:(
Sushi anyone???????????
-
Not me buddy, you can have them all !!!!

Just wanted to say good luck to all you guys in PA. who are gettin your feet wet.

Just wanted to say good luck to all you guys in PA. who are gettin your feet wet.
Wilkes Barre, PA got the worst of it for sure. In Harrisburg it crested 2.5' above flood stage, but really didn't do much damage. Just some flooded basements for a few. It definately will screw up the river fishing scene for a while.
-
flooded basements are bad enough :(
and not to mention all of your fishing holes have "moved around"
-
i heard binghamton NY got washed away?
-
I picked up some new camoflauge tip-ups from BD for my groomsmen..plus of course one for myself.
Pray for ice,

If any of you guys are setting off firework's for the holiday be careful. I would imagine it hard trying to tie on a size 16 jig with one hand :-\
Jim

Or even with eight fingers... ::)

I just heard on the news of how some kids decided to go outside an throw firecrackers at each other. This happened in Florida. A firecracker went down a back pants pocket of one of these party animals and not only gave him a good kick in the butt, but he ran two blocks before they could catch him to put out the fire. We live a pretty dull life up here in Maine because we would never think of celebrating the fourth like that. :woot:

Uh huh, that's not what I hear. ;D
-
Uh huh, that's not what I here. ;D
they put the firecrackers down there on purpose :D
-
We can only have sissy, namby pamby, idiot friendly fireworks here in Minnesota, so my wife went to Wisconsin for "supplies". ;)
-
Same thing in Maine, just sparklers and 12ga. Why we can't have fireworks in Maine.
1. Booze and fireworks are New Hampshire main export and it would hurt their economy. Good combo though!
2. Maine's government feels that they can't trust their taxpayers with thing that blow other things up.
3. The forest service is afraid of fire even though it's rained 21 days last month.
4. Maine is afraid that if we had the freedom to use our own head they would lose control and the we would be independent. :o

Live Free or Die
Try reading our fishing rules >:(
-
Up until two years ago, we couldn't even have sparklers and whipper-snappers! ::)
I guess even idiot friendly fireworks are better than nothing. :P
-
I'll try and help you guy out in N.H. as much as possible. ;D The way the government is going you'll need to wear a helmet to bed because you might fall out. When I was a kid you would be lucky to have fenders on your bike let alone brakes. Pretty quick they'll make us get them inspected before we can let our kids ride them on the road. I go lobstering and from what I had to have when I started to what I have to have now for safety equipment I think I may have to add on a room to put it all in. My only complaint with the government (well one of them) is that they are acting like an over protective mother.
-
I lit a match and waved it around....Got the "eye" from the :callcops:
I feel soooooo protected from myself.

Anybody else notice the site is running slow??
-
I found double clicking makes the page load faster.... maybe a option got checked during the setup on the server...... :-\
-
It must be getting colder if things are slowing up. The days have shorten by 9 minutes. In California, up in the mountains it going to be 35 degrees, in Death Valley its going to be 105 degrees. It's 52 degrees, bright sunshine and flat calm on the island this morning. It will be a while before any ice makes on the pond around here.
-
Maine is afraid that if we had the freedom to use our own head they would lose control and the we would be independent.
It isn't just Maine's government. It's all of them and the Feds...
But back to ice fishing-
Anyone been to the North Pole lately? :P
-
Patiently waiting....looking for items around the house to sell to add to my 'gotta have a power auger' fund!
-
Just saying hello on this fine Saturday............ca ught a couple greenies at RV this morning, mostly a scouting trip.
-
Forgive my ignorance, what is a greenie? ???
-
The water was flat calm today. I haul a hundred trap and got seventy-seven pounds of lobster. Things are starting to pick up. I don't know what a greenie is either, could be a frog.
-
had to get the trap out today just to keep it aired out and make sure the mice aren't trying to set up house !
I cant wait !!!
-
I'd suspect the greenie was a green trout, aka largemouth bass.
-
AKA largemouth carp or green carp, I see, Thank you. ;D
-
anybody know where I can get one of the mounting plates for Cannon Downriggers to mount on my Fish Traps ????? ;D ;D ;D
-
I think they are right next to the leprechaun in the deep end of my sandbox, he tells me to burn things. :cookoo:
-
Less than 200 days until good ice !
Maybe Santa will be good to everyone and bring us some new gadgets to ice fish with !
I'm gonna ask him if he can find it in his heart to bring me some new glow jigs .
Hope he gets my letter in time .
-
Skipper,
Greenie is a largemouth bass, sorry about that...........

I think they are right next to the leprechaun in the deep end of my sandbox, he tells me to burn things. :cookoo:

I almost fell over ;D
-
Hey C.C.
Where's the saltwater action at? I'm a huge fan of the surf........mean, brutal, ugly.........and oh so rewarding, or frustrating ???. A fall outer banks gets me all worked up, drum, blues, albacore.......oohhhhh h ;D ;D
-
100 degrees and climbing, ISH!! :P
-
It's very humid here Skipper. We just had a thunderstorm and pouring rain. Now that it has raining the fog has shut in thick again. I hope the tropics stay calm. With this heat it suck hurricanes up the coast and I don't need that.
-
Hurricanes in Maine? No fun! I shouldnt gripe, We usualy only get a few days a year that break 100, if any at all. When it does get that hot though, its so humid you have to chew the air before you can breathe it. ;D
-
Byron, the salt I'm hitting is in Del. Indian River Inlet from the rock's. Stripers all night and whatever bites all day ;D
Jim
-
sounds like you mike
Whatever could you mean? :P
How is Florida, J?
Any ice down there yet?
-
Leavin for vacation in the mornin fellas. "Keep it going" while I'm gone.
Jim
-
Is that a snowbank off to your right Scott? I think I just saw some ice, but it was surrounded by Captain Morgan. Have a great weekend, I think the stripers have finally shown up. I'm going after those shedders tomorrow. Yahoo
-
If you the choice to icefish any lake in North America which would it be and why?
-
The lake that is closest to me that had salmon and trout only no crap fish and was plowed LOL
-
If you the choice to icefish any lake in North America which would it be and why?
Mille Lacs, its ten minutes from my house and full of huge arse walleyes, northerns, perch, and muskies.
-
Just stopped in to cool down. This heat wave stinks! I think I'll go watch Grumpy Old Men to cool off. Bring on the ice!
-
Have you ever stopped to count the really good days compared to the ones that stink. It seems like every work day would make a great weekend day. You know the kind, when driving by the lake the water is boiling with fish. Your windshield is getting covered with scales from the fish bouncing off it. I guess we should count ourselves lucky, it could be worst.
-
Well, it might not be ice fishing, but tomarow I get to do a presentation on ice fishing at the Youth Bass Anglers Conservation School, which is pretty cool. The school is attended by 25 high school seniors ( selected out of several thousand applicants ) who be pursueing a carear in fisheries managment or a related field. It's a week long program located near State College PA, and the facility has NO air conditioning.......... ........I think my opening line will be, "so, who would rather be standing on a froozen lake??" ;D ;D
-
I would.
-
so would i ...nice to see you mainedog!! the heat has finally broke hear in maine and we sare a balmy 65 dry degrees this morning ;D
-

That is cool, Byron. How did it go?
-
Still waiting for ice :'(
-
It went really great, the kids had a blast and most seemed very intrested in ice fishing. One of the great things about kids is that they ask questions, which makes my job easier. I think that next year, I might spend the week at the camp, lot's of good information and speakers.
I do not want to seem like I'm trying to get a free plug in for anyone, but I would like to thank JamminJigs for the large number of jigs they donated for the kids to have, along with Frabill and Jiffy. We had the IceShanty banner flying and I think we'll be seeing some new names here come winter.
When I have a moment I'll post some pics...............sta y cool.
-
mike, where did you take that pic in your avatar ???
-
archive pics keep me going, bring on the ice.
-
Gotta comend you Byron on your work with young people. Good job keeping the sport going.

quick, get that kitty an antacid :o
-
We can't have cold weather until I catch enough lobster to fill up the reserve for ice fishing. I did haul my traps this morning and caught 240 pounds. The season is just starting here.
-
Glad to see there was no shortage of post's while I was on vacation. The striper fishin wasn't what I was hoping for but I did manage to get 11 fish with three keepers. From what I was seeing around me, I was one of the lucky ones. Now that that trip is over let's go "ICE" fishin!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim
-
Welome back Jim, we missed you ;D

It's definitely not ice makin weather here! lol

You are going to go further up than me, its 95 degrees here.
-
It was fifty-two last night. Great night for sleeping with a light cool breeze. Tonight we have a little more wind for the S.W. and some fog. It's going to get more humid as the week goes on, but the water temperature is sixty-eight. Striper fishing is picking up and the lobsters have slacked off a little. It's a far cry from what it will be come January with thirty feet of sea vapor and frost on the buoys.
-
im hoping bussman gets into a big wolfie on wed!!!
Is Bussman up your way?
That's cool. Catch a biggun, G!
-
yep...hes standing right next to me and we are on our way to the docks...wish us luck

Consider good luck wished!

I just close my eyes, turn to the sky, and imagine snowflakes landing on my face. If that doesn't work, I go drink beer. ;D

Jim
-
sorry guys no pics...what happens in maine stays in maine ;) ...no camera...buss and i had a great time though...ha wrapped a decent striper around a lobster trap and the "HORSER" handled it like a pro...then we went out deep in search of haddock but to no avail. we managed some fine pollock in the 10+# class .was awesome to meet and fish with george
-
Glad to hear that you and G had a fun time Scotty. I've found it to always be enjoyable meeting and fishing with guys from here and MFF.
Jim

Man- I'm not usually one to complain about the heat as I work out in it and it pays for my numerous bad habits...
But I sure could use a few cold days about now!

SOMEONE IS NOT COOPERATING WITH MY SEPTEMBER ICE FISHING PLANS :%$#!:
-
We've had more thunder storms and heavy rain this summer than I've seen for a long time. It gets real hot on the mainland and when that cool ocean breeze hits it watch out. It has rained so hard the last couple of weeks it's hard to drive. My lawn still keep on growing with the perfect combination of heat and water. When I'm not out lobstering I'm fixing phones. I wish people would unplug their phones and computers when they hear thunder. That surge protector doesn't do much good when it gets hit with 50,000 volts. That's another good thing about ice fishing, no thunder storms.
-
No rain here! Its dry and crunchy! The corn is gonna die and there is no way we are gonna get another cutting of hay. :P

-
Ohhhhhhhhh Icenutter, you know me to well ;) ;)
Hey archbishop, I'm 43..........If you'r 30, it's time to start some serious planing. My personal feeling is that it's better to retire early in poverty that later, perhaps still in poverty. Someday I might look back and regret this line of thinking, or not. Like I said, I'm going to have to do something on a parttime basis, probally till the day I die, not sure what yet.......

Welcome Fellow Minnesotan!!!!!

Last evening I walked down to the picnic bench along the river in the back yard with my ice-jig box's, for about the hundredth time this summer, and started to once again rearrange the box's, while sipping a cold beer. While I was in the process of over sharpening some jiggin spoon hooks, Beth came and sat down beside me, not saying anything.
A short time later, a smallie of about 18" started tearing into the minnows along the rivers bank, about 10 feet away. I kept oversharpening the hooks, while taking another sip on the brewski.
Beth didn't say anything for awhile, then she looked over and said "perhaps you should talk to someone, our health insurance coveres stuff like this"
So to make her happy, I went and got the rod and caught some bass.............
December just seems so far away ??? ???
-
You don't look crazy if you use the excuse, "I was just playing ice fishing with the kids".
I have my shanty set up in my basement, sometimes I even get the vex and the heater going in there. My wife doesn't suspect that I have some screws loose in my head, she just thinks I am letting my boys play.

she must know for sure by now ;D

It's when everyone is enjoying the warm weather, running around with tee shirts and short, going to the beach and your thinking about freezing weather and thick ice when you really need help. To me, summer is just down time that I have to put up with. I could care less if I ever see another biting bug, sun burn or hot humid day. I would think that what you need for therapy is a sheet of white two inch foam, 4x8, cut a 9 inch hole in the middle and put it offshore twenty feet or so, and put a tip-up in the hole. This could cure the itch until hardwater. Think of it as one of those last of the season warm days when your sitting on the ice in a lawnchair getting a tan.
-
she must know for sure by now ;D
You are right, she knows I'm cracked. I tell her I am not dangerous as long as I take meds (ice cubes). I expect to get picked up by those fine folks from the sanitarium any day now :cookoo:. All kidding aside, is it November yet? ;D
-
Easy on what you wish for Pegasus, there's nothing better than getting a good sunburn sitting on a bucket in the middle of a lake in feb. ;)

I dont know if any of you are big panfish fishermen. But when bluegills get picky at the end of the season in open water. One of our most effective methods is to take the old icefishing pole out and jig vertical with a small eye. Have any of you guys tried this in open water? Its quite effective ;D
