Did some poking around last night and this morning in Livingston county. Found some 1in and 2in of good clear stuff and the this morning found my magic 3! Most of the lake was 2 or less but a nice chunk of it was 3! And just like that, my season has started!! Tight lines and Spud Spud spud

Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

Have not been out personally but my guess is quite a few lakes now have a good skim to an inch. And this weeks temps...highs 40; lows 20 won't hurt a thing...even with the bit of rain/snow mix predicted, it will still make more ice everyday...just not real fast. I plan on being on one next Saturday...well...I hope.

Checked numerous public lakes, about 1 1/2”-2” most places by shore. Clear blue ice, good stuff, too many idiots throwing rocks in ice, wait till u hit one later this winter with auger !! Ouch another day or so

I noticed a lot of that too.  I don’t get what they think they will see with that.   Also saw foot tracks across a pond without any evidence of a spud bar.  I checked and it was about 2.5”.

Perhaps Children? Pretty low odds of hitting a single rock or 8 on a 100+ acre lake. It'll be ok!

.     This was a very popular channel that’s about 30’ wide, have seen many holes on this. After the sun “melts” them in and a little snow, prolly not even see them. I seen a couple of “adults” throw stones in there also, I expect that from kids !

I think sometimes people do the rock test to see if the ice will break upon impact. Maybe it's the inner child in most adults. ;D I like to do a rock or stick test from time to time.

Quite a few people out on Otsego but that is a shallow lake. Saw where someone walked out on Margrethe about 100' punched a hole and walked back. I suspect the ice was still just a tad bit thin.

Funny thing was most of the rocks were very small, less than half the size of a baseball

Good start on the home lake. It's deep, so a good freeze takes a while. I thought about stepping on it but didn't want to get my tennis shoes wet.

I will be going up for my last deer camp this weekend , ( hopefully the warm weather, and rain doesn't screw the ice up), and then will star ice scouting. I have gathered some stuff, , re-spooled a couple reels, and re-filled  about 20 propane tanks for spearing, so, its a start, be safe

Found a couple of lakes in Barry County that had fishable ice the past 2 days. No limits(close) but have gone 3 for 3 in the days out so far.

Finally found some thin ice, 1” on neighbors pond, with cold temps forecast hopefully by Wednesday around me should have 3”. Got around 2” snow today but I imagine pushed down the whimpy ice and will refreeze!!
