Just a heads up to keep you from making the drive to Gun Lake only to get ticketed by crossing private property! This has been ongoing, all the lots have been sold and owners are taking action. Just an FYI, "Fish On"
For the life of me I can't find on the map the area in dispute. I've looked around the lake but no canal that isn't accessible by the water. I do believe that if there is an easement "road" that runs through or along state land that easement is public. However not maintained by any state county or local govt. Leaving the houses that it eases to, responsible for any maintenance or lack of. HOA, LA, fees pay for that. So if drunk Billy and loud Bobby park on the side of the rd in contact with said state land they are free and clear unless otherwise posted by govt officials. If it's private on both sides and posted private then trespassing tickets may be handed out. So...
Oh understood, but offender won't be ticketed on first offense unless posted. You can call police and have them escorted if they are belligerent.
Am I wrong, or are anglers not allowed to access the canals from lake side? Go off the launch, stay on the ice to go into the canals?
Misleading subject title if you ask me.
For years, there was a bunch of vacant land on these canals (I fished them 45 years ago). People parked anywhere there wasn't a house and walked across private undeveloped land to access the canals and fish. There was even one marina that did not care if you parked on their property. I haven't fished these canals in winter in at least 20 years, but GunLakeEffect probably lives on one of the popular canals and is sick of trespassers. I would be too. I still access the canals by boat occasionally, but that is legal, and I do it rarely as I would rather fish the main lake. The canals are quite a hike from the state or county park, so if the lots are now all sold off and nobody has permission, tickets should be written to those crossing private property. I imagine that West Gun will probably good for quads and sleds soon...unless there is a ton of snow on the ice. Moral of the story is quit parking on and crossing private property to access the ice, unless you have permission.
I seen one truck with an orange warning sticker, I missed if the truck got towed. It was parked on DNR marked wet land and a privet drive.
