pike and moon phases
« on: Dec 11, 2011, 07:30 PM »
I'm just wondering if any of the pike boys pay any heed to moon phases. Been reading around a little on this, not sure what to think. If anybody has any thoughts on this any info would be helpful. Thanks.

I have always paid more attention to the air pressure, seems like the lower the pressure the better the bite.I also like to use dead bait early season, and live bait later in the season.

Thanks for the input guys. Why im asking about moon phases is around planning some time off for fishing.

I spear pike. I seem to have much more luck during new moon than normal.

Barometric pressure, light levels, and wind direction have a drastic effect. I put little stock in the moon phases because the bite is determined mostly by these three things. When they add up, they bite, when they don't they take the night off. The moon may have a slight effect, but it can't be much compared to these other things.

Barometric pressure seems to be the key factor to me. Fish in my avatar ate when the barometric pressure was low and dropping

Yep, the low pressure systems seem to be the best for me also.

I agree with this, but even if thats not the case, you still should hit the ice!

When there is a west wind at about 5mph, barometer at 29.8ish and sloooooowwwwwwllllyyyy yy falling, and a light steady snow, I am going fishing. I don't care if I have to skip out of my own funeral! ;)

I will go fishing too, no matter what.

When the weather is all messed up though, you at least know what you are dealing with. Out come the micro jigs and Marmish rods. It may be slow, but something will bite if you are willing to work hard enough for it...
