Tried out my Christmas present
« on: Jan 07, 2017, 04:43 PM »
So I got a filet knife for Christmas and today went out and got a lot of perch on tip ups and jigs.  So I kept 3 nice ones ( thank you to Manny and my brother for two of them) and filleted them.  It was my first time in a while, since I am mainly catch and release, but I had heard that bluegill, crappie, and perch are tasty. And YES, they are. My wife, daughter, and I all loved it. I guess I'm going to have to change my profile. Not just catch and release anymore.
In it for the fight.  Catch and Release

Jeff, there are plenty of perch in most of the lakes around here and a little "selective" harvesting might even improve the ecosystem in some of them.
Being on ice is nice but the tug is the drug.

X2 Manitron some of these small Ponds get stunted and I agree the yellow perch are great tasting, whenever we fish Laurel lake in Irving I keep a few big ones for the fry pan.
