Trick'n my Trap (Pic Heavy)
« on: Jan 06, 2013, 01:46 PM »
Put some thought into how i want to mod my new Clam Trapper

I found that two milk crates side by side fit perfectly.
The problem is, these mods have to accommodate my 6 jig rods and all this crap

Here is what ive come up with so far

Bolted the 4 milk crates together.

Cut notches across for rod holders. The rods are a hair lower than the top edge.

Next..See how it fits in the Clam!

Now to see how the lids will fit. I plan to trim these up to fit. Each side will open from the middle out with hinges on the outside edges.
I may cut both in half so each crate has its own cover. My wifey is making me two 13inx13in pads that will cover the front left and right lids to serve as a bench seat.

Left to do
Wrap the sides of the crates with a plastic shrink wrap to keep snow out.
Install no slip pad under the crates to keep them in place.
Install some reflectix on the back and top of the tent for thermal/condensation control.
Install lighting.
Some kind of auger mount.

If i had the space, I would probably make it all out of fiberglass. But with the fumes I cant do it in my basement. And with the temps, im not going outside lol.

Im still debating on making a ski sled to mount it to for deeper snow. Pulled it thru about 8 inches this weekend and it glided on top nicely.

Will, looks like you are a man on a mission.  You'll know if the mods work the next time you take it out.  Seems like many great ideas get modified after actually using them.  Are you planning to leave that set up in the clam when using it?  If so you need a seat. Hey, I went home the other day and looked for the inline Eagle Claws and they are not to be found.  Fished the same spot again today, it was a pickerel parade.  That beats the skunk.

Oh im sure there will be many changes lol
As for those reels, they are very hard to find, i got pretty lucky.

For my seat, i will have two pads that go across the front.
Will look kinda like this, there will be no gap in the middle. i just left one so u could see they would be separate.
The lids will open from the middle. So when closed the pads meet up and form a bench seat.

Clam actually sells a light that has a fan, and led lighting that runs off 2 D batteries, I have one for my ClamYukon and it works awesome, oh it also comes with an adapter that you can plug into a power outlet from your 4 wheeler if equipped or truck or car.
I just want to go ice fishing and ignore my adult problems

Ive heard of them.

I think the reflectix is a better permanant solution tho.

Also helps hold heat too

Anchor system just arrived.
These screw into the ice with 1 finger and you tie off to them.

1in bore by 7in long

Eye bolts in for the anchors, 2 on each side. Have 2 3ft pieces of rope with carabiners on each end. One clips to the eye hook, the other to the ice screw.

Wife made me a cover with an elastic pull string

Reflectix installed up back over the roof and to the pole before the door.

All folded back with the reflectix. Folds up nice, cant even see it.

Looks great BB good work

Thx Ron.

The only things i got left to do is some kind of auger mount.
I also want to do the mod to drop the front bar all the way to the ground the full length of the fishing area. My wife can sew a couple velcro straps along the sides to tie to the pole.
Think thats all i gots left.
