Jig for Pike

To catch these pickeral or smaller pike you can jig or use tipups. For jigging I prefer to use a 30'' light action rod with 6lb test. For a jig I preffer to use a swedish pimple in the smaller size ranges. small rapalas also produce. I have even caught them on micro jigs with waxies in abundance when fishing for bluegills. They are great predators and will hit just about anything at the right depth. If using a tip up, use a lg ftahead or even bettewr a 6in shiner. place it about 2ft under the ice. Pickeral tend to be pretty active in the winter and will move quite a ways to hit an injured shiner. Good luck.
