Dave Genz Legacy or True Blue reels
« on: Dec 27, 2017, 10:35 PM »
I'm thinking of getting another spinning reel for Bluegill and Crappie. I currently have a Shimano Sienna 500 and a HT Accucast 104. Both of those are mounted on 27" ML rods.

What intrigues me about the Genz reels is the large spool which is suppose to help reduce line twist. So, I was curious if anyone is using these and what are your thoughts? I think between the two, I might be leaning towards the Legacy. Will be putting it on a 23" UL Fenwick Elite Tech and using 3# line.

Thanks!

between these two I would go with the legacy. line capacity on both when using 3 lb line is like 80 yards. another one to look at is the Jason Mitchell Elite 600 Reel. Personally I like the Jason Mitchell reel the best. to me it is the best bang for the buck and it still has the large diameter spool and the other big plus to these is the push button on the handle for folding it. makes it easier then having to loose the screw like on most other reels including the True Blue. The Legacy has this same push button for folding the handle too.

here is the links to each one :

the True Blue Reel (new redesigned version for this year) :

this was the old style True Blue that is now sold out and discontinued :

this is the Jason Mitchell Elite 600 Reel :

Thanks, I'll check out the Jason Mitchell reel and see if I can find one locally. Tax and shipping from Clam is a bit steep.
