i just bought a new Hummingbird 230 portable fish finder and was wondering if it works for ice fishing.

Probably.  Make sure the transducer hangs level, and you're going to want to keep it on the 20 degree beam.  I have the Piranhamax 175 and it works great on the ice, but it has more power than the 230.  I don't know if that will really matter in shallow water though.

Maybe hard on batteries.
Looks like it uses disposable batteries and is not set-up to use a 7-9 ah battery.
