After a week off from work we hit the local lake and a couple of Adirondack lakes.
My girlfriend is definitely hooked on icefishing now....as long as we fish out of the heated shanty and she gets to sit by the woodstove.

Never forget to pack a lunch or anything looks good to eat!

We also hit Piseco a day and caught these beauties:
My first lake trout in 5 years!

My brother with 2 lakers

On Thursday we hit lake George for the first time this season. The perch were biting excellent during the snow storm.

We went back up Saturday and my brother was lucky enough to catch this nice laker as we fished all day during the blizzard.

We had a week off from work (thank god for winter recess) and we managed to get out for 4 of the days. I definitely cannot wait to get back out again this weekend.

Saturday was very windy so we decided to hit the hometown lake and fish from the heated shanty. Rather than show you all the dink pickerel we caught, I thought I show you some of the crappie and bass. This is the first year in several years that we caught crappie and bass ice fishing. We had a very bad winter kill in 2002 that left thousands of dead fish on the shoreline in the spring. It is nice to see them making a comeback.

A beautiful sunset over the shanty and the island on the lake.

Sunday we went to Lake George but got Skunked. I did snap this great sunrise!

That's what we always called them as kids until I got older and found out what they really were called. I like strawberry bass better than crappie. Sounds like you're eating poo when you say you ate some crappie last night.

I first heard that nickname from an old black lady that used to fish off the sodus bay bridge wit her cane pole.

We hit a nice central Adirondack lake this Saturday. We were trying to break my dad's curse. He has gone the whole icefishing season without catching a fish on any lake other than our hometown lake. We did very well despite the 3 inches of water and slush on top of the lake. I got there before my dad and brother and caught these 2 nice lakers.

My dad and brother arrived and they weren't even out on the ice ten minutes when they caught these two lakers. My dad's curse was finally broken!

As the day went on the ice was melting and the holes kept eroding. We kept having to drill new holes and moving our tip-ups so they wouldn't fall down the holes.

As you can see we did very well. The ice just kept melting and water just kept pouring down the holes all day.

All the lakers caught were between 10 and 17 inches. Not keeper size but we don't keep them anyways.
The next day after catching all those lakers we went out into the woods of the farm and boild down sap to make maple syrup the old fashioned way! Nothing like fresh syrup on a big stack of pancakes.

Its not over yet. We probably will get one more day on the lakes this weekend. Got to love the Adirondacks!

My dad was very happy too. He hasn't caught a lake trout in 5 years and he caught 4 that day on tip-ups. You got to love Maple syrup. Nothing tastes better or sweeter.
