Anyone have any experience/advice about walking the area between Speaker Heck Island and Assembly Point?  I'd like to come out of Harris Bay, turn that corner, and head southwest into some deeper water.  I'm just curious as too see if anyone has any recent experience with this and how the ice conditions are.  Is there any current in that narrow area between Assembly Point and Speaker Heck Island that I should be concerned with?    Thanks!
I wouldn't recommend  it this year. that area can get sketchy.

Agreed. That area off Assembly Point is a good spot for an early season plunge. Big pressure ridges and inconsistent ice there this year.

I've seen plenty of machines coming out of Harris and running that gap this year and even some the last couple days although traffic was very light on Wednesday and Thursday.  People were also walking between Long and Speaker heck to fish around Canoe.

Anyone been out of Harris this week with a quad?

I was out of Harris the last couple days.  Still tough going even with chains for me but my machine is only a 335.  Snowmobile is the better option if you got it.  Guys with bigger machines and tracks were doing much better off trail.

Lake is getting very sloppy. Lots of standing water some spots 10 inches deep. Ruts full of water. About 4 inches of slush and 4 inches of snow on top of that. Here’s a picture of  the mdb Boat launch. About 1 foot of water in the ice

Well, I'm stumped.  Fished Huddle Bay today in 30-40', caught 6 perch but approximately 60 seeds.  Where are the perch??  Deeper?

Question... I know you set tip ups just under the ice for salmon but can you jig for them?

Few years ago I jigged up a few on the perch beds on tungstens. There was a lot more schools of smelt on the beds that year for whatever reason, and that is when I would pick them up jigging through those smelt or just as they moved.

It was pretty good on Wednesday. Good enough for about 20 vehicles to drive down to the beach.

Lakers and salmon were on fire yesterday morning in northern basin, but unfortunately ice may be by middle of week.  Short season again.

Lakers in LG usually average around 10lbs at 30 inches and then a pound for every inch after that... I would go with 19 lbs but 29   don't know about that....if so its a great catch....

Great fish for sure but no way it weighs 28 or 29 lbs. I agree with it likely being 18 or 19lbs. Look up photos of actual 30lb lake trout, they have huge bellies!!
