Author Topic: Cat/Griz fishing derby (Read 3064 times)

Saw something like this on a few other states forums. Basically it would be a side competition to the Ice Shanty tourney. To participate all you have to do is follow all of the same rules as the Ice Shanty derby (tape measure, ice in background, derby tag, oh yeah a fish). Plus you put something else in the picture like a playing card or piece of team gear. For instance red cards could count as Griz fans and black for Bobcats or we could just stick to having to put Bobcat or Grizzly gear in the pic (my personal choice as it would add a nice Montana touch to the whole thing). Also we can set our own run dates since its just for fun and no prizes will be awarded. I think all gamefish species sould be counted and tallies of each species won to be done in April. Anyone interested?

Sounds fun but their should be extra points for eating the fish you catch. I know Griz fans and they will release all of their fish then go to the store and buy one for dinner

I'm in, but just for curriousity, is there such a thing as a Bobcat fan? I've never actually seen one. maybe thats the folks I see cowering behind the bushes in a fetal position after the cat/griz games every year.
Is there actually a mix of folks each way on here?

Looks like im going to have a busy season here trying to beat all you griz fans. Maybe I should recruit some cat fans to ice shanty. Anyone have any ideas as to species or other rules. Go Cats.

Well it looks like there might be a good mix of us. Anybody have any input on times and species? Also we should make sure to only post pics of fish that are larger than previous posts. Possibly starting another thread for picture comments so this one is easier to navigate.

I suppose we all should support this derby, It will give the cat fans that are still curled up in the fetal positions sucking their thumbs a reason to get out of the house. All montanans need to get on board a cheer on the GRIZZZ tomorrow night.

This sounds great. I think that we follow the same rules posted for the shanty tourney, unless there is something we want to tweek about it. but i think that would be the easiest. then make sure you wear your team attire for the photo (same photo rules should apply) if we want we could just make our own tag for the pictures ex. Cat Griz Derby 2009.......or something similar we could print off. if possible get the mod. to add another link on the montana page strictly for the derby. have it start jan. 1 and have it species specific. thers plenty of different fish in mt that i think we could fill up the different categories. we just need to get more people into it!!!! oh yea.....dont know who to play for......im a straight griz no matter what but im an athlete for the cats..... $:-\$ aahhh screw it. GO GRIZ!!!!

I a agree it would be easiest if we folllowed the same rules are the iceshanty derby (plus Cat/Griz something or other). I think everyone that wants to participate probably feels the same way as there have been no big fish posts. I do think that all trout species should be seperate as well as sauger differentiated from walleye. Also, I hate to get uppity but please eat or release your catch (safely without harm). Now that the ground rules (open til Jan 1 lets say) are established lets try and win someting cat fans. And lets make a solem state vow not to rip down in goal posts or ice shantys.
