Pickerel Lake Newaygo
« on: Jan 01, 2018, 02:46 PM »
Folks,

Is there any decent panfish fishing in Pickerel lake in Newaygo?  Looking at the DNR maps, looks like that lake gets deep quick just about everywhere.  Was going to throw out a couple tip-ups too.

panfish, perch, pike and walleye  in pickeral.
lake has a lot of springs so it takes a while to get good ice.

I have fished Pickerel lake the last 4 years and it seems to have gone down in producing any type of panfish. There are, however, a great number of Pike.  Most of the time we end up driving over to Kimball lake which actually has some nice sized bluegill.

I didn't think Kimball had an access.

From my understanding right when you cross the channel between the two lakes you can park on the west side facing south towards the channel. As long as your vehicle is entirely off the road the cops\DNR will not bother you.  Thats of course from what I have heard and did last year with no issues. Right out from there is the best action I have gotten over the years.

Had some luck on Pickeral this past weekend. Everyone seemed to...very rare. The ice was somewhat sketchy
