lay it down with the gas hose toward the sky instead of toward the ice and you are fine

I would say no, if it is a 2 cycle engine there is no float bowl to flood the engine.  You probably transport it out there in a laid down position i am guessing as most guys do.  I have tons of 2 cycle equipment and never seems to matter what position it is stored in.  I would be more concerned with fuel leaking out of the tank.   If it does become flooded hold the throttle wide open while starting it.

we didn't think there would be that much ice with the weather we have been having or else the power auger would have been there.... never said it was bad just saying we wish we had the power auger would've made it a lot quicker

i store mine laying down the the gas tank up and never have any problems 1 push of the primer and 1 pull and she purs like a kitten.

gas augers dont scare fish anymore than a hand or electric auger, both of my my 2 stroke gas augers have float bowls.
