I have a box of Krocs that I use for open water casting for brown trout at a local reservoir. They will be with my ice equipment this year when targeting lakers. Never really looked at them that way...

I caught the first 2 Lakers, that I ever caught, on a Kroc. That was 30 years ago!

Tip the hook with half a shiner or something or even a big crawler and it'll hold them.

I would like to see that!

Can you use a 8" hole, or do you need a 10"?

What depths are you guys jigging at? I sometimes have success setting tip ups under the ice in 40 fow. But I've never jigged one up. If I was in say 50 fow what depth should I be jigging at? Or what depths do you guys look for when jigging? Or setting tip ups?

Really depends on the lake

Places with smelt like Schroon, George and 4th, I prefer 40-80 feet depth flats.   I like to jig 1/4 off the bottom ie: if its 60 feet, 15 feet off the bottom.

As bigredonice said, every where is different, I have gotten lakers under the ice in less than 2 feet of water; Stream mouth chasing smelt...

Im planning to fish lake george. So i would want to be in 30 fow to jig for panfish. And i wouldnt be too far away from 60 fow. Would you set tip-ups in that 60 or 30 fow? and probally 10 ft down in the 30 fow and 15-20 ft down in the 60 fow?

PK flutterfish in firetiger and krocs in silver and blue or silver and red tipped with piece of minnow.Going to try the moonshine shiver minnows this year and see if they produce.
