Some trails were groomed right before the Copper Basin. I suspect that with the new snow, it won't matter. A friends kid got stuck in overflow. 2' deep.
Dirts friend is as accurate as the weather man. Nice laker Pat. Iwould have to go with 36 inches and 18lbs. I am guessing you used the lip gripper scale on it and know the waight.
The main trail, or trails that people have previously made have little to no overflow, but I found overflow on Susitna and Louise off the beaten trail. There has been fresh snow and the trail is good going.
Spent 3 days. Only one guy and his wife fishing. Then it got cold. -48 and stuck there. Medium winds made that even colder. Hit henious overflow going in. Was going 35 MPH pulling a sled.... next thing you know I was barely moving. Dropped sled and rode until I believed the track was clear. Took second machine to clear track while the cabin was heating up. Day 2. Two snowmachines stuck out front. Geared up. Machines were cold. It took an hour to get them running. Went to check on the folks. They had burned through the snow and got stuck on glare ice but were starting to fish. Friends showed up to watch a movie and relax. They replenished my whiskey! More friends showed up. Had a short but awesome party as no one wants to ride home in that weather with a buzz.Day 3. Got up early. spent 2 hours getting machines started. Asked lodge to plug in my truck. Found Honda gen set had puked oil due to cold. Packed up. Ready to go by 9 AM. Friends called. Both machines broke. 600 Polaris completely iced in track. After chipping for 2 hours, still won't turn. Went over and took my turn at it. Should have went back for a weedburner. Spent an hour working on it. Summit 800...... coolant froze up. Overheats at -48 in 1/2 mile. Got cold soaked. Damn Baffins. Went back to rapidly cooling cabin stuffed warmers into boots and changed socks. Waited for Summit under tarp with heater. Got a call from lodge.... they needed the plug. Ran over and got friends cargo sled and headed into the lodge. Polaris track free. Summit still had problems. Made it to lodge. No ones truck would start. Weed burners and battery chargers.....when I grabbed my battery charger the insulation came off the wiring... 2 hours later.... one running. Polaris towed Summit in. Everyone off lake. Trucks jump starting down the line. 2 pilot cars now due to construction. Moose ran over by wrecker..... worse that I have ever seen. Looked like a roll of carpet. Truck in ditch. Semi with tandum problems. Screw the severe cold. If it is that cold stay home or stay put. If the carpenters built the weathermans house 30 degrees off...... would they get fired?
Sounds like you had a good time buddy!!! How many fish did you catch? I thought you had one of those 2 stroke sleds.Don't they start in all weather?
Good to see you made it back alive. I figured your wife would have killed you for taking her out in 40 below.
I don't know her.... but I would sleep with one eye open.
