Ice jigs
« on: Dec 07, 2017, 07:06 PM »
Ok this started with how many combos. How many jigs do you have, panfish or other wise? People tell me I have to many but I think it's just right.

Hard to tell as they are scattered about in several boxes according to what species I’m fishing for. As a guess I would say over 200 rigged and plain, painted and otherwise. Seems like every year I get a few more. Why, I really can’t say!  ::)

Jigging rapala, spoons and other style jigs are in a different bag. I'm hoping others have as much as I do so I don't feel bad.

It's the same with augers and shantys too. I think I have a problem, I stopped using lead a couple years ago.

I have probably 200 lures between jigs, spoons, and Rapalas. I cant lie though I got lucky at a flea market and got a bag of like 50 unused jigs for $20. I also made a killing when Gander Mountain shut down.

Mouse traps.  Their called mouse traps.   We all have way to many.  I find myself using the same ones that I used ........60 ...... years ago.   Pimples etc.   However I have  evolved..   I do use the new heavy metal ones, when necessary.  I think its more about the  method and  electronics   than the lures. Doing you homework, learning the area the movement of your targets.  So, yes I too have been a victim off the better mouse trap idea.  Basics, basics.  Thats my opinion, Geo.

that is a collection, I only have a few. Almost a challenge last year we used the same jig and laughed as we kept catching fish with the chipped paint. We actually have the same jig tied on this year. Just waiting for ICE

Lets just say I have a few more than enough. Think Cabela's without the aquarium. I have pin mins older than most of the people reading this.

I have no sales resistance to anything resembling fishing tackle. Plus I make my own which just adds to the overabundance. My UPS driver sees me more often than my neighbors. If I have a garage sale . Men bring their wives to show how bad it could be.

At 70 years of age I would count them but would probably expire prior to completion. If there were a FTBA ( Fishing Tackle Buyers Anonymous  ) I would be the founding father. Ice gear is my biggest weakness.

After seeing these pics i need to buy stock in lure companies lol. I used to fish local bass tournaments so I can understand getting carried away with lure buying. I keep telling myself im not going to do that with ice fishing but my collection is growing.

Yea there is something wrong with Ice fishermen. I have about 8 Boxes total and decided I would now only take 3 with me to lighten the load. I also have 6 big boxes of open water lures. I find a lure I like and buy 4 more of them for who knows what reason. Same with the Jigs and lures I use Ice fishing.

If you've fished for a while, there's always that lure that you like and it gets discontinued.  So you will usually buy a few or a lot of spare ones.

Yes those are gruv boxes I picked them up last February. They really hold the jigs tight.

I have a small box of some from another country. Them incredibly small I think they are from the Ukraine. They are used with plam rods. They will never see water.

Last count was about 250 jigs and spoons all for panfish. Looking at all the posts i feel a lot better than I did before. I always thought I had too many, now I see I don't have nearly enough!!

Like everyone else I have several boxes of jigs in every color, size and configuration but there are only three that are always rigged. A gold #2 Swedish Pimple with a Hali's long chain, a horizontal perch colored jig and a silver spoon with a red bead on the hook. The other setups vary but I always keep those three rigged and they've caught most everything. I would bet most guys here have their "go to" rigs.
