So here I sit at work, almost 7 am on a Sunday. 20 something degrees outside and Ice is forming. One problem though, it isn't forming fast enough. I need to get on that hard water and catch some fish!!!

Worse for me. 0700 at work on a Sunday.... ponds are making ice.... and the 10 day forecast for next weekend had changed to from 30deg to 40 deg!

Lol. They are wrong at least 60 percent of the time. Let's hope that's the case here!

Amen to that one. I checked the ice on one of my starter areas and it had a half inch on it last evening

About the same here. The ditch here at work was froze enough to walk on. And yes, I had to test that theory! I was so happy to be able to walk on water again!

I’m with you. I haven’t fished hard water since we left Alaska in 2013. Lived in Texas for a year and a half where it wasn’t an option and then hadn’t gotten back into it after moving to Montana because we had another child and duty calls. Now the wife is 100% on board, I’ve bought everything we need to go, and I’m just sitting here waiting on ice.

There are a few spots already fishing around the state; but, a lot of this stuff is Christmas presents so I’m hosed until the 25th no matter what! It’s killing me!

Me, too. We grew up in the southeast so I never thought she'd jump over to the dark side. Absolutely loves fishing, not a fan of ice. So, rather than being selfish and taking all this new gear and going looking for big fish, I'm going to invest on the front end and try to make it super enjoyable for the entire family that way they're begging to go ice fishing on the weekends. Obviously, the intended result being I get to fish a TON during the winter! Fingers crossed.

What I have learned with my wife is to keep her warm and catching fish and you are good to go.

That's the plan. I picked up an Eskimo 949i with a propane heater so the warm part should be covered. Once we find the fish, we should be good to go.

I'm borderline setting up the flasher in the kitchen to do the floor test and having my kid run some matchbox cars under it just to scratch the itch a little...

I had good ice and the fishing was great.
Then I had to leave town for work for 16 days.
Came home to rainy weather and warm temps.
Up and down weather this week, a day of rain then a day in the 20's.
Going to get out today and give it a try again.
Hopefully not to much overflow!

Well made it out and the ice was fine.
~10.25".
No overflow but it was above freezing all day so maybe other areas of the lake had some?
Fishing was good but the average size was much smaller than last time.
But my friends kid had a blast so all was good.
Come on colder weather here in AK!!!
This warm spell is torturing me!

With a possible foot and a half of lake effect snow forecast for the next couple of das, it doesn't look good for Crawford county lakes. I hope they are wrong! I was hoping to get a good layer of fishable ice before the snows hit. Looking at the Conneaut Lake sky cam, it does not appear to be capped yet. Snow will chill it down...olds
