I would, looks like a old Fin-Bore II, uses a cutting head like the Nils Master.

You would have better luck purchasing a new spud.

Some steel wool ...little sanding ..some rust reformer ...then paint

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rust-Oleum-Rust-Reformer-Aerosol/16652305

if you can find blades/get them resharpend ..then your set...if not you can modify the off set handle to fit on a SM Lazer.

Frank DeLuca (Sharp Nils on Ice Shanty) can sharpen the head as long as it's not mangled.

Exactly, Frank is great to deal with. The twin grip offset handle is more efficient than the knob / grip that Strike Master uses. BTW, ditch that Rube Goldberg modification to the top grip handle.

I've used worse.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Not sure what it is looks very similar to a nils with a folding handle.....the handle is off set which means it should cut fast.

Honestly...I don't see anything wrong with the auger. A little TLC and love it would look new. Put a cold snap cover on it and it looks like you'd have a folding style nils which would sell for $180 new. Heck I'd say it's worth $50 has is. I'm guessing a nils cutting head would have a good chance at fitting it. So you could probably put nils extentions on it and cutting heads......if you wanted to run it with a drill or clamp plate they do make adaptors to do so with the folding style.

I'm guessing if you got it cleaned it up you'd be able to sell it on Craig's list has an older nils.

With that style cutting head Frank Deluca can sharpen it. He would also be able to adjust the cutting head to make sure it's at the right angles for cutting if it was bent.

What size is it an 8in? If that would happen to be a 10in auger I'd pay you $100 for it shipped to my door.

I believe that Nils augers come from Finland......however A lot of quality blades are made in sweeden, so I don't know if the cutting head would be made in Finland or sweeden...either way it looks very similar to a nils.

Nice find but now your sort of almost obligated to bring it back from shame put upon it. :)

The old Fin Bore.  You'll often see Rapala stamped on the blade and sometimes Normark.
Normark brought Rapala to the US in the early 60's. I saw my 1st Fin Bore at a Boy Scout winter camp out in the early 70's. It came from Jim's Bait in Duluth who probably received some of the 1st Rapala products at his shop.     Guys are finding them at rummage sales that have otherwise been sitting idle for years.  One member here found one new in the box.    Back then our options were spoon auger or spud bar.     As a cutter, Fin Bore was light years ahead and should have taken over the market.
Heinola augers (Nils) hadn't been imported here yet.

Take a look at the bottom of the blade.   If the pitting isn't too bad I should be able to resurface it and then get a new edge on it.
You can put a Nils head on it but will have to drill a new hole in the auger.

Tell you what, send it to me and I'll do what I can with it.  Consider it my small contribution to "Pay It Forward".

Lots of good info here Frank, great post and cool that you'd offer to do the blade on a pay it forward.
