it's  not only  legal  but  considered a  part of  proper fish management  from the  new  York DEC  that's  why  Jefferson county has  no perch limits   and  most  fisherman on Chaumont sell the  fish  ....  it's  been going on for  years  for a  reason

They have been catching and selling perch from there forever.  It hasn't hurt the population at all.  Just a bunch of whiny guys that can't catch fish.  My brother lives up that way and goes out in the fall time and puts the hammer down on the perch. He buys minnows by the pound when he fishes for them.  He told me one time that he comes back to the launch with his boat and there are three guys in a boat and they complain that they can't catch any perch and the market guys are ruining the fishing as the perch are "gone". He just nods his head and goes "Oh".  Then proceeds to pull three 7 gallon buckets full of perch out of his boat.   He takes smaller ones home to eat and sells the larger ones to pay his bills, boat, trailer and vehicle registration, fuel, bait, tackle, license and other bills.

Remember, some guys know how to catch fish and other just fish.  If it were hurting the perch population, the DEC would step in and put the 50 fish a day limits on them.

If it is legal to do then who cares. I don't like what a lot of people do but what does that matter. If there is that many perch there, then they shouldn't have a limit of 50. That's just stupid. I get 4 doe permits here cause there are that many deer here. But if your limit is 1 then I should only be alowed one? Can I sell my antlers? Or cause you hang them on the wall then so should I? Heck I might drive out and fish there and buy as many as I can while I'm there. Would that be so much worse than seeing nets raping the water so corporations can make the money? Mostly locals just living off the land. Good luck to you guys out there. Hope you make it rich out there selling perch. Or at least make it thru the winter with a few extra bucks.

between trapping and  selling  fish it pays  for my equipment (which means i'm supporting the  economy )  paid  a few bills  and  is the money  we  use  for Christmas ......guys that can't catch  perch ...they  don't go to waste  people  buy them and  eat them

I am curious about the biological explanation for this.  What is it about the area that can withstand no limits, but still be a thriving perch population year after year?  What's the secret?  If it only is was something we could extend to other areas of the state (I am talking about the continuously thriving perch populations)!

we never had  a limit on any panfish till a  few years  ago ....instead of  asking   what areas can  withstand  no limits maybe  the real question should  be what areas  can  withstand limits? ...... i honestly  don't know  how much good a  limit on panfish  does .....

Sounds like something the IRS should look into, you know; unreported income!

He pays his taxman with perch.   He has is disabled and his income is limited, it is legal, it helps him pay his bills, allows him to enjoy his hobby and put some food in the freezer for his family. It will likely be -25F below tonight where he lives. Propane and firewood isn't cheap and the winters are long and cold up there...that is why many flock up there to ice fish when there is little to no safe ice in Western NY.

Invasive's , acid rain, and road salt run off is what we should be worried and talking about. That's what will hurt a fishery worse than some people selling fish I would think. Not looking for a fight just my opinion.

Legal to hide income from SSI or the IRS so you can keep your meager benefits or not pay taxes???

never was until the  1980's  and  believe it or  not the state   didn't  put  the  the bill to the  state legislator it  was  sportsman groups  and  indepentants that supported  it ....
