My daughter is 21 with a new family so time is always an issue. Growing up she was always there.
My son is almost 18 (in a couple months), he lives to fish, hard and soft water. We always take the kids, thats the main reason the group I fish with goes in the first place.

Great thread, very important the idea of keeping this sport going. Love to see this board have more activity, perhaps become a place where ideas could be discussed about how to get more kids into fishing...
I'm not saying they're biting on Brant.  But they probably are

The fish and game club that I belong to has put on a kids ice fishing clinic the past 2 years and has had great success.  Lots of shantys, electronics, poles, tip ups, etc. for the kids to use/learn to use, and of course, food and hot chocolate.  My kids got hooked last year and so did I.  Here is a pic of the clinic this year.

My poor kid's. They are as, or more obsessed with any type of fishing as most of us here. I pile all my gear and them (4 and 7) on the jet sled. Pull them half a mile out onto Lake George to my favorite perch spot. Set up the shack. Get the heater going. Plop the oldest one sinks his leg in a hole. Up to his knee. Needless to say I hustled them off a little quicker than on. Luckily I had at least a change of clothes for him in the truck. Lucky for it being close to 40 out too. Still had to go back home. The snowpants and boot's were soaked. Better luck next saturday.

went out with ADK iceman and a couple of his nephews today...fishing for crappies and perch on tip ups, we also set out a few set ups for pike. By the time all was said and done, he had an 11 pound pike, i had a 9 pound pike, and his two nephews? each hooked into 10 pounds pike respectively...I have a picture of three of the four pike, but my batteries died just in time for his 7 year old nephew to hook into his 10 pounder....missed the big family photo shoot at the end. but can honestly say that his two nephews, as well as a friends nephew who tagged along and caught several crappies on tip ups as well....are most certainly going to become lifetime ice fisherman...sorry for lack of pics...

Most of them are from Hemlock Lake.
The pike was on Conesus Lake.

The girls fished the Loon Lake kids contest this past Saturday.
My youngest daughter Hannah won grand prize with a 16" bass.
I wish I had gotten a pic of her with it before we released it.

Thanks to TheThinIce for starting this thread and for getting me and my kids into ice fishing.  We've gotten out a bunch of times this year, thanks to the cold winter and a truck that's always loaded with gear.  Here are some photos...

Catching them is only half the fun!

Very Nice.
I see the boys are even cleaning their catch.
My daughter has been begging me to let her, but I'm not ready to let her use a razor sharp filet knife just yet.
She does skin coons, but thats not as delicate!

These pictures are great and I love to see kids having fun fishing!

At our store last year we started displaying a big (generic) yellow smiley face with the words "fishing makes kids smile - take them fishing"  - anything to encourage people to get their kids out of doors and fishing can't be bad.

Last year at 2 1/2 years old.  First time out.

This year at 3 1/2.  He has already graduated to hanging out in the warm shanty with a good drink in his hand.   Still got the froggy chair though    ;D

wouldn't think of going without my youngest boy.  The older son use to go with me but was never hooked like the youngest.  they are all different.  My eldest did go with me open water last year for the first tine in years and had a great time but just isn't in to it like his brother.  I don't have any ice pictures, because I don't take the camera out but here is a shot of a couple of stream fish my youngest caught.

Yesterday I took my 6 year old laker fishing and wouldnt you know it He out fished me.  He cought his first laker in 120 ft of water and played it like a pro.  THe fish was 2 inches short of legal  but for his first laker he did an amazing job.  I dont have a pic yet but i will get it up soon.  The laker was 21 inches.  I am so proud of him.  He is definitly "hooked" on the sport and wants to go every day.  I love it that my son loves ice fishing.  Its my passion, other than classic fly tying.

SO if you get a chance to take a youngin out do it.  its great for them and a great feeling for you.  The younger generations need to get into it to keep the sport going.
For those that fish lake george NY, PLEASE DONT LET THE STATE LOWER THE LAKE TROUT SIZE IN LAKE GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!
