Fast snaps?
« on: Dec 13, 2010, 06:21 PM »
How many use those little snaps on your jigs instead of tying on the knot?  I have a heck of a time tying on that lite line anymore and was gonna give them a try. Just wondering what you think it does for the action, or if it scares the fish. Thanks.

I use them on all of my ice rods.  I seem to do alright catching fish yet.

I'm curious what others have to say.

I use them in certain situations. Most horizontal jigs need to be tied to fish properly, and the fast snap will no be a benneift. But on some jigs where hanging at a certain angle is not requird the fast snap is helpfull

I have used fast snaps and I don't believe they ever effected the fish. They come in different sizes and when you match them to the smaller jigs we use when ice fishing the snaps are pretty small. The only problem i have had with them is that they sometimes are extremely hard to remove when you want to switch jigs. Add frozen fingers to that and I end up biting the line  then I have to tie another line anyhow.

I always keep 1 or 2 rods rigged up with them. They make changing jigs to find what they want much easier. I also tie them on all of my older friends rods that can't really see well enough to tie knots without their glasses.

I use them on all of my ice rods for ease of changing jigs. The only problem is with some horizontal jigs. Fat boys, genz bugs and other balanced jigs are what I use the most and I even started tying up some balanced jigs to use for ice fishing. I still occasionally retie the  snap to prevent break offs. My fishing buddie always scolds me when he sees them and says I should always tie direct but I find I change jigs too often, I would end up using allot of line and use up all my budget for fishing.

I have been using them for a while and enjoy the convenience of not having to retie every time you change a jig color. I agree best suited for spoons and horizontal jigs. If you a re having a hard time finding them they are used for fly fishing so that is a good place to look if they aren't with the ice fishing stuff.

I use them them with my raps and such, not so much with the smaller baits. Sometimes i like to change the pitch in wich those smaller baits hang.

I use them for the small jigs. The bigger jigs and horizontal jigs need to hang just right and some of them need the knot tension to hang right.

Been using the snaps for several seasons and like them,  I have the knot tying problem too.  Match the size to the lure and they usually work fine.  However I do prefer a direct knot connection to any horizontal jig for better presentation and hookups. ----- try them and good luck -----

Have used them for years with no problems.Really helps for a quick jig change to see whats the hot jig might be that day. Most times I'm fishing for gills but when the crappies come thru I like to change jig size and color asap and it really makes it easy to do.  STEVE

Well, I tied one on last nite at home, and by the time I got it tied on, and a jig snapped on it, I'm not sure I saved much, lol. Them things are tiny! I'll give it a whirl, though.

I use them on all my vertical jigs and hooks. Still tie the horizontal jigs on. Definitely makes changing jigs faster even with cold fingers or in the low light. I use my hemostat to grab hold of them for removal of the jig instead of trying to grab them with my fingers.

I use em too, the smallest size they make and I catch my fair share.

Ok my eyes are not what they used to be and tying in twelve volts is a real pain. One night my buddy just gave up and went to bed. So lets take this one step further and who and where, can I find the old style brass knot tyer or any good one any one knows about.
