Wow, seems like you boys have the lakers dialed, very nice!  I enjoy the pics.  I'm over the pass in St. Anthony, thinking i should make a trip over sometime.  I've never caught lakers through the ice, but I'd sure like to give it a try.

I don't have a snow machine, do I need one to fish Jackson?  How far is the walk from parking areas, ect?  Any tips on spots, should I just "look for shanties" or is there a lot of dead water I should steer clear of?

If anyone ever wants to jump the pass over to Idaho I can fill you in on some of the local lakes.  Been catching a fair # of kokanee and some decent perch out of Ririe Res, just NE of Idaho Falls.

Wingnutty, a snowmachine won't help you much in the Jackson area, they have been banned from the trails and lakes of the park, by our wonderfull picklesuited communist park employees. A polaris,Arctic Cat, or Skidoo 4stroke is the only thing you can use on Jackson Lake, and they cost 10grand or so. Bring Sknny skis, or snowshoes, the lake will likely be flooded. The walk to the lake could be short, or as long as you want. The further you get away from the crowds the better the fishing will likely be. Fish in 20-40fow, off points or bars.

I am interested on how you catch the kokanee, on Ririe res, and how much ice there is. How big do those fish get, and do you eat them?

Kokanee fishing on Ririe has been fairly spotty.  CuttemJack (Matt) and I went a couple weeks ago and caught half dozen kokes, about 15 decent perch and about 10 12" trout.  Went back this weekend and got beat down.  Had a couple schools of kokes come through, but they didn't wanna open their mouths.  Ice is about 6-8".  Supposedly the koke fishing picks up later in the winter, but this is my first year here, so I dunno?

The kokes suspend and come through in schools every-so-often.  I have a vex, so that helps pick up the schools when they move through.  Otherwise I'd just leave one pole about 10-20 feet down and fish another rod on the bottom (30-40ft) for perch and trout.

What do you mean when you say that the lake is "flooded"?  Do you mean there is water on top of the ice?

How thick is the ice typically.  Can a hand auger (like a lazer) cut it ok, or are we gonna needing auger extension?

Thanks and let me know if you want more info on ririe.
