New Gear
« on: Oct 02, 2011, 08:49 PM »
I see the ice fishing equipment is starting to hit the shelf's. I have been holding off on buying new, until I see the new products this year. I  am planning to hit the ice show for the first time. I'm ready for ice.

Plan on spending more then a few hours at the ice show.  Great seminars, tons of vendors, and generally a lot of people attending.

Are you talking about the ice show in St. Paul, or is there one closer?

I haven't seen the new fenwick ice rods anywhere but bass pro, but it is still early. I think that I will try the Marmish hand rod out this year to fun.

Was in Scheels in Des Moines yesterday and they are starting to get quite a bit of gear out.  Had a lot of rods (jason mitchell's, frabil straight line) and quite a few jigs (tungstens, etc).

I bought my Fenwick Elite Tech ice rods off of MidwestHuntersOutlet.c om a few weeks ago.  Their site, last I checked, still showed them as "coming soon" but I bought the 25" UL and the 28" ML after they started showing up on ebay for 18.99 each, 6 shipping.  They shipped the UL a few days after the order and then the ML a week later.  Last I looked they were 19.94 each.  Reeds Sporting goods and other places I see them listed for 29.99.  A few on ebay for 25 plus 5 shipping.

I'm pretty well set on gear this year other than the strike lite that just came in I ordered a few weeks ago. If I sell my camera I may also dump my older pro scout and get a new one.

Thinking of getting a power auger this year.  Just trying to decide if i can handle dragging the extraweight out.  Im also thinking of getting some new rods.  First season with a good job so I can afford it.

I'm replenishing jigs and spoons this year... someone helped themselves to my gear last year... guess I shouldn't have left it in my truck, parked in my driveway  ::)

I did pick up a new (to me sled) earlier this year. Added a Digger auger mount to it, a RAM mount for the GPS, still need to add some ice scratchers.

Looking at a Clam Command Post (thermal) for some elbow room when there's more than two of us and a powered auger this year. Would love a new Vex but the budget is blown on the previous two items unless I win the lottery.  ;D

My brother is looking at that unit as well for his first flasher. He's torn between that and the vx 1 pro and the fl 8. Like I told him you'll be a lot  happier fisherman then without one. Good luck and tight lines just counting the days  ;D

Commenting on the Arctic Armor, good jacket but overrated for warmth, and the ice 35 I have one for a backup to my fl20 but nothing out there will catch more fish, great unit for the $$
