Title: close call today
Post by: osiris on Jan 20, 2015, 10:32 PM
so after a few days of above freezing temps during the day and below freezing at night we got about an inch of snow lastnight and we went fishing today a good 14" of ice everywhere weve been we got out on the main lake and headed towards another bay and it felt like we hit something looked back seen some slush and didn't think much of it got a couple hundred yards farther and hit something hard looked over to see the snow had covered up a large crack that was open we turned towards shore and punched it hit another bad spot but made it to solid ground grabbed my ice picks and a large stick walked out to the closet crack and it was atleast 12"wide and the ice was bad around it we stuck the stick in the crack sticking up to mark it and went back to the sheltered bay we know that had a safe 18"+ of ice pretty sure if we had tires on instead of tracks we would have been S.O.L on the first crack.. stay safe out there guys we did end up the day on the right side of the ice with a good bucket of fish though and a bit more cautious its crazy how much the ice can change in 5 days
