Homemade jigger totter replica
« on: Dec 18, 2012, 11:37 PM »
I liked the idea but wanted to make a few changes so i set out to build some. made a jig for the bends and a jig to hold in place why welding.  First thing is i wanted some different way to anchor the pole to the cross bar and i didn't want to pinch on a wire to my cork handles.  so I made a saddle the idea was to use o rings to secure the rod and they did work but at the end of the day with frozen fingers they were hard to remove  :-\. Second option was double sided Velcro at harbor freight 35 foot for 4.99. worked fantastic easy to remove and also secures a clip that will hold a paper plate or card  for the days where there is a breeze so the pole auto jigs  @)
second thing i wanted round ends on the cross bar as to not snag on anything why reeling so i opted to weld on 1.25 washers and they worked pretty good.  only took about 2 hours to bend and weld together 8
what do you guys think ?  video link

Those of you who don't want to build your own get a hold of rob at http://jiggertotter.webs.com/  He is also on here and goes by the name icehogger84

Couldn't you mount a piece of thin pvc tube to the cross bar and put your rod into that?

That's awesome! Love the wind jigging option. Real creativity there. are you planning on removing everything (velcro), before reeling in the fish or just pulling up the rod with everything still attached?

Thanks guys, I cant claim the idea for wind jigging as i read somewhere about people using a paper plate and a cloths pin. I could have used pvc tube but then i would have had to figure out how to mount the tube to the cross bar and then anchor the rod in it so it was solid.  Nope you just pick it up and reel the fish in that's why i used a washer the traditional jigger totter just has a 45 degree bend at each end of the cross bar and its pretty close to the reel handle and with heavy gloves or coat there was a chance of a snag.

Idbasser The wind jigging option will work well with jigger totters also if you decide to go that route if you want to build your own your more than welcome to use my jigs to bend some up  ;D

They go together real easy and adjust so you can position your rod tip and balance at your preferred height according to what jig weight or bait, I have never seen the real one other than pics or used one but the idea and balance and design is a winner  ;D

I added some surgical tubing to the holder last night it helps grip the pole and adds a layer of compression to help keep the Velcro tight.  added up all of the materials and ended up being just a little over 3.50 per holder  ;D

Yea i guess they are a little, I just stack them up and put them on top of everything else in the sled. I have had some time to use them and i can tell you i would leave other things home if there wasn't room they simply work fantastic.
