Anyone? Thought about investing in one before ice comes.

Often. Excellent for finding the great small spots, subtle troughs/breaks, bumps/dips/clumps etc. on the "spot" for zeroing in for when the ice shows up. The more one knows about "down there" the better off one should be.

i have been checking out the bottom contours of my local lake so i have a good mind set when ice forms.
