Good laugh there. "Through it like butter" yeah more or less. "A few days use" nope. Memory for a lifetime though.

Had that exact thing happen to me. Had a one year old strikemaster laser 6” hooked up to a Mikita 18v drill. I keep saying I am going to take the boat out and get a heavy duty magnet and fish it out of there. Had the same look on my face too. It’s was 45 degrees and everyone was fishing outside. Drilled the hole, and poof, it fell out of the chuck into the lake. I watched it sink all 27ft to the bottom on the vexilar screen. Looked around to make sure nobody saw a thing, grabbed all of my stuff and left. Not my best day.

Yeah I seem to remember seeing this before but it's still funny.
It's almost as if he's saying don't buy one of those more expensive drills that has the safety feature to keep you from losing the auger down the hole.🤣
This one was only $42 and I don't need no safety device.😂

I've seen that happen more than once and was determined my day would never end that way.
I use a drill that's dedicated for an auger and put JB weld in the drill chuck and tape the clutch in place to stop it from turning while boring holes.
Anyone else notice that every piece of equipment in that video was brand new?
Just something i notice when looking at advice material.
If the gear doesn't have any miles on it , the person using it probably doesn't either

Used a drill/auger some years back.
Before drilling hole #1 made sure it had a retention collar.

That guy probably has a video of him dropping his phone down a hole as well.

Happened to me. Got it back with an underwater camera and a dog catcher's noose type contraption we made. Took a lot of engineering to get it back.

Not sure if it would work with your augers but I have seen guys used Frisbees as collars.

Not a frisbee...but close. I bought a couple of round wooden plaques from a craft store a couple inches bigger than my augers. Drilled a hole through the center. Painted them. Slide it over the auger. On each side of plaque I took a piece of plastic tubing and secured with hose clamps. No tubing? Wrap auger a few times with Duct or electrical tape where the clamps go. Going on 5 years now and have yet to lose an auger...or have the "discs" fall off.

Doesn’t the Nero come with a offset handle part designed for a drill? It’s “L” shaped, and appears to be designed so it can’t fall down the hole if the drill unbuttons.

Ice Master... been using one for years under my fuel. Mora, Nero, E-drill all worked well with the adapter.. uses a bungee to hold it to the drill. Nice and compact.

I use a Fuel / Nero setup and found that a 3/4" self tapping sheet metal screw through the auger collar, piercing the Nero shaft is more than adequate . If the Nero falls out of the drill chuck the handle / auger width is over a foot and can't fit through the hole. Also no knobs sticking out to snag you.
