Lake George Ice Conditions
« on: Jan 23, 2007, 03:00 PM »
Here are the ice conditions on lake george as of 2pm today. they are in no way advocating going out on the ice though.
Warner,Katskill,Sandy ,and Harris Bays all frozen out to Elizabeth Island on the east and almost to the tip of long island on the west. Saw footprints and sled tracks on warner bay, so someone was out there.
Dunham's bay Frozen about 3/4 of the way out
South Basin skimmed over north to Wiawaks Point on East and English Brook on the west, then scattered ice farther north.
Basin Bay frozen about 3/4 of the way across from south to north.
Huddle bay frozen from Chicks Marina South, saw footprints and sled tracks going out from Huddle Beach rd
Sawmill Bay from Sagamore bridge north almost to the tip of Green Island.
Nothing is frozen North of Sawmill Bay all the way to Hague.
None of the ice looks good, but at least its frozen. its trying like hell to freeze, so hopefully the cold weather coming later in the week will button it up. lets keep our fingers crossed. ;D ;)

Thanks for the updated info, won't be long with the weather were getting now.

Say it isn't so slip, wait until you can get out to the Laker's or you'll be standing at the edge of a frozen bay just itching' to get out to were you can't go yet.
Out to the big "KING" sized Laker's

Stopped by harris bay today and to my surprise saw marks from sleds going out.....so i ventured out and sure enough people were/had been out there. Drilled near the islands 4" of solid black ice....out farther 2" of solid black ice....looks like shes ready for the weekend for the bays.

Love ya get out on the KING!!! Got out last Feb. for the first time ever and got into a perch bite.  Best memory on the ice so far.  I'm a new guy though and really don't have a fishin partner yet so I probably shouldn't venture out on the KING for another couple a weeks ???

Everyone should be careful on the king. Remember last year the guy from Vermont who lost his life on first ice. He drove a 4-wheeler out on thin ice without test drilling first. Please everyone be careful, especially venturing out towards the middle. I don't want to read about anyone falling in and/or drowning on lake George this weekend. Good luck everyone.

I'm happy with 50 of those delicious perch from the KING right about now and you can jig up some lakers right in the perch beds without having to move far ;D

You are right about that, sometimes it's your perch jig and 2 pound test that gets a workout when you least expect it.  :flex:

Wow just looked at the cameras on Capital News 9. It looks like it wont be long now. If the winds keep down and the temps get to what there suppose to maybe the whole lake will be locked up by this weekend. YEAH!!!

Thanks again for the updates. I just checked the webcam and it looks like we made some progress. The area that opened up yesterday is closed again. I wonder how far the ice was able to spread.

As of 4pm today:
-south end frozen up to Paulist Father's
-Dunham's Bay frozen out a couple hundred yards past the mouth
-hundred or so yards out in Basin Bay
-Huddle Bay frozen out to Clay Island, saw a portable shanty way back in the bay
-Sawmill bay frozen
Winds are dieing down, we'll see how far north the main lake buttons up by tomorrow morning.

Last year, right? - the ice pushed up on shore while we were out there and we had to wade through the water to get on shore. Seemed to be solid under the water, but it was quite scary.  Is there another way to get on in Huddle Bay without walking a mile?
