Blue\green slime on perch?
« on: Jan 08, 2017, 06:45 PM »
Hey guys, I got a few perch for a meal and while cleaning then they gave off a blueish slime. Anybody ever see this before? Thanks!

Nope, no two stroke, I use a hand auger. Finally figured out how to post pics (no small victory)...anyway...here's a pic of slime on hand after wiping it off a perch and a pic of the slime on a fish. This was after the fish had been frozen on the ice and then thawed, which always seems to cause more slime than usual.

We have seen that several times and it is always after the perch have been frozen while fishing and thawed to fillet later. No effect on the taste of the fillet, but we keep the meat away from any slime.

It might be from algae or phytoplankton they have been swimming through or dredging up from the bottom that sticks to their protective slime.  And when on ice, the slime solidifies and the "green slime" doesn't run off but concentrates due to the cold temp.

Besides, 2 stroke is bit darker hue  lol

This...I have a mess of perch freeze solid and while thawing them they developed this goo.  I rinsed it off before filleting so I could actually hold onto the fish since that stuff is slicker than snot.
