Black rock/ rock pile blackstrap

Ive read this rock pile area is to be avoided at blackstrap during the ice season.. can anyone share where it is, is it right in that big bay, or the mouth or on the main lake?

"X" marks the spot. it's usually only 2'-3' deep there in the summer depending on water levels.

Why would it need to be avoided in ice fishing season? Just for auger reasons?

Thanks for the photo, I've read a few times on here that the ice is really thin around the rocks, ive never fished that area and plan to head there tomorrow in the dark for walleye, so I just wanted to avoid that .

Mainly early ice. The rock absorb the heat from the sun so it doesn’t freeze as thick on shallows reefs. Now shouldn’t be an issue but when the ice is only 20” it may only be a 12” there. An yes you don’t need to smack a rock with you auger.
