Portage Lake Night Eyes

Any luck out there catching eyes at night? Was thinking about going out around dusk and staying out for a bit.

I'm not much of a walleye fisherman, but I know a guy who is. He said for some reason, Walleyes don't bite after dark on Portage Lake. Everywhere else, they do, but not on Portage.

Thats weird considering thats when I hear most people talking about catching them. Thats what I was told about little Bay de noc. Maybe I'll still give it a shot. At least it will get me on the ice some more  ;D.

Definitely give it a shot. People have tried in the past at night on portage (ice) and not done well. Then they just give up. I think location is even more important at night. It can be excellent in the summer (at night) why not winter. Being a fairly clear water lake night fishing SHOULD be good, but then again this is portage. There really are not many places to compare it to being an open system connected to lake superior. Bottom line is nobody really trys it, as far as i know. good luck would like to hear a report, I did get one at 8 p.m last yr.

if the walleye for some reason arent biting right before dark and after.......id have to say you need to try fishing in shallower water.     find some transition areas where the walleye travel from the deeper water into the shallows to feed.  this is the case on most of the lakes i fish       find out where the small fish go at night and you will find the walleye there eating them
