Alton bay
« on: Feb 09, 2024, 08:50 PM »
What is the chance that Alton bay will be safe enough to justify the 2h drive for a couple hours of cusk jigging Saturday? I know it's the derby that's why I'm avoiding the daytime fishing altogether, past 2 years always fished for cusk to avoid the crowds and been working okay, last year with the lack of ice ended up setting up on 19mile with limited success, caught 2 dinks on set lines and saw nothing on camera or the flasher all night ???
If anyone wants to join you're more than welcome, bringing hot dogs for dinner  ;)

Alton bay 10 years ago, the guy next to me caught a record cusk, left a dead smelt over night on a 1 ounce weight.  Came in the morning and pulled up a monster.  We were allowed to have a certain number of traps and each trap had a Musk. We had lots of guys, 5 guys. I think it was the limit of Musk traps and we all caught cusk. On ever line it was awesome, fish are ugly

Ball Park for the win, fish caught 0  :o
We did have a bunch coming by the camera, but for a first time since I have been jigging for cusk, seen them sniff a bait and not eat it ???

I fished Alton Bay this weekend. Caught a small Bow and a couple of yellow perch. Nothing board worthy. I set out the cusk lines and got skunked. We started out with 7-8 inches of ice but after Saturday and Saturday night we lost about an inch or 2. Didn't bring hot dogs opted for the sausage, pepper and onion sandwiches. All in all it was a great time.

I do enjoy red snappers once and awhile but man those sausage grinders hit the spot!
