Have been picking up used ones that people throw away or leave on the ice for at least a decade. Picked up an adapter for less than $10 and have been refilling them and using them without issue. Can’t beat the price of free disposables and 20lb tank refill

Yea its all great till you have the first problem with them. My buddy burned down his shanty using the canisters that are not made to refill! Very stupid idea.

I think he means after a fill, take the 1lb tank off, purge it with the screwdriver, screw back on and fill. I do this exact method, fill, purge, fill, purge and fill a 3rd time. Gets the tanks close as possible to full. Never had any issues with my 1 lb tanks. Been using the same ones for years.

Yes, "jam" is not a great descriptor.  It's a pressure vessel, so you need to inspect it and throw them out if they are damaged, but it is not stupid if you are not an idiot.  Take a look online, plenty of resources to do it responsibly.  If you don't think it is worth the risk, don't do it...  Stop shaming people for thinking different than you.  Its a bad look.
