Title: Solo Engine Strikemaster wont idle
Post by: jr50 on Dec 28, 2013, 07:51 AM
I bought a Strikemaster Magnum 8.25 with a Solo engine this year.  It was new in the box when it was shipped to my door but was manufactured in 2011.  My auger will start fine but unless I am feathering the throttle it will die no matter how warm it is.  If it is warmed up it will idle for 30 seconds then quit.  Any suggestions on how to get the throttle screw adjusted right.  I have adjusted it and it is a real fine line between too low of idle and too high where the auger spins.  any suggestions.

I'd have sent it back so fast it wouldn't have been funny.

It's most likely the mixture too lean and not the throttle.

I used a bottle of strikemaster oil to 1 gal of gas like it said on the bottle.  Same as I always mixed my old auger.  Is there a break in period on new augers.

Sorry I should have been more precise.  The fuel/air mixture at idle is what I meant, not the gas/oil mixture.  There's usually a small needle valve screw that adjusts the amount of fuel coming through at idle.

Where would I find this needle valve screw that needs to be adjusted.  I talked to the place where it was purchased and they said they will exchange it but my try this adjustment before I take it back.

So this one sounds dumb but I couldn't figure out why my auger died every time I went to the next hole.

Turns out not holding it 100% vertical I was flooding it!

Felt stupid when my buddy pointed it out.
