Throw net help???
« on: Oct 21, 2008, 11:19 PM »
I just got a new 5ft throw net. I am wondering if anyone can give some tips or hints on how to use it. Having a hard time getting it to open up all the way.

I think once I get this thing down the bait tank will be full pretty quick.
Thanks in advance guys.

I just bought a small one today (3 1/2') I'll let you know my progress as I progress ;D. A buddy of mine bought the 6' one and says the directions :laugh:are twice as hard as the 5' one. Anywho I'm gonna try and throw it tomorrow.

I figured it out last night after watching some videos on youtube. You will like it once you figure it out.

You say a 5' net.  Is that radius or diameter?  A five-foot radius (center to edge) gives a ten-foot diameter, which is illegal in fresh water in Massachusetts (check the regs you get with your license; it's in there).  I have been throwing an 8' net in salt water for 30 years, but 10' is too much for me.  A lot of old timers keep part of the net in their mouth when throwing; don't do it.

Throw nets are sized by diameter.

I laid my 3.5' out on the grass and it's actually closer to 7' dia.
