What pound test (as a leader) is recommended for tip-up perch fishing with minnows?

4 lb test is plenty for perch, but I like to use 6lb test on my tipups because I feel comfortable with it for all the species I fish for on tipups, from perch to lake trout. :)

this is a good question. I would also take into consideration what other species are in your water and how thick the cover is. In most situtations, 6lb. test will get the job done. However, if you have gators lurking and the cover is thick, you might want to consider a 10lb. fluoro-carbon leader. I like to use a "camo" type leader, something that blends nice, high strentgh, but pliable and is thin diameter but high poundage.

4 or 6 lb is probably plenty but since you are likely to get something bigger than a perch hit, especially if you are using minnows, id go for 8lb or 10

I use a 10 to 25 pound line, with a 3-12 foot 6lb. mono leader attached with a barrel swivel( sometimes use the same tip-ups for trout).

It seems to work pretty good for me.

I use 4-6 lbs. depending on the water I'm fishing. My preference is 4 if I can get away with it, especially in clearer waters.

I have been hunting or fishing almost everyday of my life. The rest have been wasted.

on my tip downs for perch i use 4# mono with a 2# leader below my swivel, with a light wire #8 hook, baited with minnows.
i balance with a couple tiny splitshot so the rod stays horizontal.
i can see every move the minnow makes
i've caught some surprisingly large bass and pickerel on these rigs.

What pound test (as a leader) is recommended for tip-up perch fishing with minnows?
Specifically targeting for perch four pound fluorocarbon leader material is your best chances for catching the most. I personally could not care less about pike “bite offs” considering I do not keep them to eat anyhow and if you switch to a heavier line than you will get considerably less perch.

I've  been running Fire line braid on a couple of my tip ups. I think it's 2# diameter, but 10# test. I like fishing fairly large shiners, so nice bass are pretty much a given; the 10# is nice for those heavy charges near the hole, but the low diameter insures plenty of bites.

6# on all my tip ups. size 12 VMC treble. the 6# gets the job done with all species. lately i've been expirementing with 4# fireline and i like the results...0.75lb line diameter and almost bite proof. may covert all tip ups to that soon. Rebel.

4# or the lightest line you can handle. This gives the live bait the most action to swim around with. The line isfor the bait, not the fish.
You can not take too many perch, unless you can not clean them, give them to your friends and neighbors to clean and cook. The more perch you take, the faster and bigger the rest  will grow. The walleyes and bass will survive from fry to fingerlings.
