That would be Clio, just north of the murdering Capitol "Flint".  The famous Saginaw Bay and Saginaw River only minutes away.  Later KR

Big Ice, that is a great first bull for your son.  Had to be an unbelievable experience, even the 4 mile pack out.  Icemonster, what was the altitude that ram was shot at?  Looks like you are on top of the world!  Great pics!

This is a great place to post this info, right here with our trophy shots. A few days ago, the WY House passed  a bill 28-1 to allow bow-hunters to carry a defensive sidearm. Today, that bill was debated in committee in the Senate. If passed, I was told, it will allow us considerably more protection while bow-hunting in grizzly/black bear/wolf/cougar habitat. I also heard that it had been "slightly amended". I'm not certain what that means, but I'm posting all the info I have. Comments or more info, if anyone has it, would be much appreciated by all us ice-fishing bow-hunters.
When I called the legislature to voice my opinion, the lady who took my info inquired whether I carried pepper spray. I answered with a story: While hiking in the Wind RIver Range, I was approached by a granola eating tree hugger, who pointed to my S&W .357 magnum and the pepper spray hanging beside it on my belt.
"Soooo," he whined, "what's the weapon of choice?" My response was simple,
"That's a decision that's made by the bear."  :woot:
      Enough said...LT out     laters                      :roflmao:

Thanks for the comments Guy's. That Ram was taken about 100' from the top of Ramshorn Peak on a solo trip. The hardest thing I have ever done.
By the way LT, the amendment probably limits us to 22LR. :-\

Well, according to the Casper newspaper, the "addendum" is that G&F personnel will be "able to test a carcass" to determine whether the animal was taken with a firearm...I've been in favor of that for years, the law never really addressed the problem except indirectly. Many times as I've bowhunted, I've never considerend shooting a deer with my sidearm and toting it out of the woods bragging it was an archery kill.
Also, I know many several outfitters and a bevy of hunters who've been chased off of elk-kills while bowhunting. Think about it guys, if I archery-shot an elk say...up above Grannier Meadows where I know there's a big black bear (and there is, everybody's seen him) I can't defend that carcass if he decides he wants to claim a hindquarter while I'm in the process of toting it back to my pickup
. NO GUNS...not even after the archery kill!  :woot:
Bottom line...hunter decides to take an elk illegally during bow season, there ain't a statute in the state that's gonna change that notion, he's gonna catch that animal in the headlights or night-scope and take it no matter what.  >:D
I understand this post may offend some purist bowhunters and I do not mean to do that. Every hunter is entitled to his own set of ethics, some set their standards a lil differently-not "better or higher" than others, just differently. Long as that firearm never comes out of the holster except in self-defense of a predator, I fail to see the problem.  ;D

I totally agree with you Don, I'm an avid bowhunter for the past 24 yrs and I value my safety and life more than a hungry predator.  Right or Wrong, when I'm in griz country I always carry a side arm and pepper spray.  I carry it in the open and been lucky so far with not being checked.  I hope this gets passed, the ones who poached will always be poachers no matter what laws are in effect.  You're right about grannier meadows and big black bears.  I been bowhunting that area for bears and there's a brute in there that hasn't messesd up yet (he will).  I shot an old dry sow (she was 17 yrs old) two years ago up there.  She was the fiftenth different bear I saw in two years at that bait stand.

Man, there has been some awesome photo's in this thread.  Keep them coming guys.  Here's a pic of the Old Sow I killed not to far from Grannier Meadows!

Whoa! KR, nice bear man! Now here's the big Q...did you eat any of the meat? I killed a Fall-bear in Big Sandy a few years ago, it had been robbing the backpackers food stashes at night. When we cut him open, I split the stomach and it was full of un-digested marshmallows, cellophane, candy-wrappers and aluminum foil...talk about sweet meat, oh yeah. Some hunters I've talked to have told me you can hardly stand to cook the meat on a spring bear though.     so  1. what's your thoughts on that and  2. would you entertain the notion of schooling an old hunter in bear-baiting? Gongrats on the bear, buddy.  ;D  Don
(ps, By the way, KR, I naturally assumed G&F guys had been doing swab-tests on archery-kills long before NOW! But to think they needed a special law enabling them to do so seems to presume that just because there was a no-firearms provision in the old law, that the poachers were not actually shooting animals with guns anyway.)
