Laramie Plains lakes

Checked Gelatt today. It looked good driving up, but when I cut a hole the ice was only an inch thick. If the blasted wind would die down.....

I went out and checked Leazenby today.  It still had about 30 ft of open water on the east side.

These last couple days of cold would help a ton if the wind would die down even a little.  How much longer do you guys think before we can get on these lakes?

If these colder temps were coupled with ZERO wind I think we might be ice fishing those lakes by the weekend.  But sounds like the wind over there hasn't been too friendly.

The temps are going to start to rise up out of this cold spell in the next few days though and if there is not a good foundation of Ice I know I won't be fishing those lakes for another week or more.

Shouldn't be long though.

----

I know everyone is ansty to get out and get on some ice but remember we are fortunate in this state, once they ice up we have months and months of fishing.  I'm personally in no race to be the first person out on the ice - I like staying dry - and warm.

I saw a couple of guys on Alsop in Laramie today on the way to the Thanksgiving feast.  They weren't too far from the landing and I have no clue how much ice was there but, nonetheless, some brave souls were on the water.

Ended up going to Alsop it has ok ice 3-5" with a few 2" areas mixed in. Didn't  venture far from the boat launch. I fished a little over an hour and a half and iced 2 fish one was a NICE 3-4 lbs and one was 2-3 lbs...

Taz-  Where you out on Alsop today?  I stopped by and fished for about 45 minutes.  I was the one chopping with a spud bar.  Figured it was faster, and lighter, then my power auger.  Quite a few people out there.  I measured the ice at 6" where I was.

I was out there twice yesterday once before dark and went back after dark. Caught two nice fish the first trip and was only out a couple hours or so. Headed out now... ;D

Good luck!!  I fished for 45 minutes and caught 2 over 20" and one about 14".  Had 3 others on.  It was pretty furious, but I had some honeydo's that kept popping up on my phone.  I will be out there tomorrow.

I spent the last hour before sundown out at Alsop today. Only saw 2 fish, the first wasn't interested, I hooked the second but lost him. Too bad it looked like a nice fish. Ice was about 7".

I have caught 7 out of there this year and 5 of them were over 20" and 1 was over 5 lbs...

Definately agree there.  2 of the 3 I have caught were over 20" and of the 5 I had on before losing at least 3 were over 20".  They are impressive!!  Once you figure out what they want the fishing is actually pretty furious.
