You are killing me! I think I may get out Tuesday...Ohhhhh the anticipation.
I just finished building an 8' X 5' foldable shanty. I am currently having a custom cover made for it which will become the roof and one wall...other three walls are 3/8" plywood and the frame is pvc tubing. I've managed to keep the total weight down to about 90lbs and its folds down to 4' X 5' X 4". It has no floor but I've always just laid a tarp down to put my stuff on to keep it off the ice. That way I don't have to worry about getting the floor all slimy when pulling fish out of the hole. I can't wait to get it out there and give it a try! I'll try to post some pics when I have a chance.
Keep the pics coming!!!

Hey Jam Jam: YOu should coat your pvc frame with some type of rubber coating or something. Or else you pvc pipe wont last to many seasons. As it will break down. And begin to shatter or crack. Suggestion is that spray rubber. Or just bucket of that cheap box liner stuff.

I had considered that but there is very little PVC in my design and it won't take much load the way I've designed things (basically just holds up the canvas roof and holds out one wall which will face away from the wind anyways) so I'm not too worried. Bit hard to explain without pictures but if I get some up you'll be able to see what I mean. Based on the amount I'm using it'll be easy to replace the piping every couple of years if need. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Those are some nice Pike. What was the length on them? You should give Nipissing a try through the ice if you ever get a chance. Supposed to be a world class Perch/Walleye fishery. I never got a chance to fish it when I lived in Ontario. Wish I had...

Trevor
Don't quite remember but I believe they were 38 or 40 inches 15lbs apiece. Was quite a week all the fish were 10lbs or better. One afternoon we caught close to 100lbs of pike all fish were 10 and over. A close friend of mine runs a charter service for the summer and last yr started a winter service. Yea they kill the Walleye and Perch the Perch are a little on the small side but a lot of action. He also asked if I wanted to come up this winter to help him with his guiding but it would make it hard on my family if I left to work up their. But I'm still thinking about it.

Sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime. Too bad there wasn't a way for your family to go too.
