Title: 1st annual apple pie brew fest
Post by: muskyon46 on Nov 10, 2013, 08:54 PM
Well after a long wait to get a few of us together on the same page, we broke out the burners and cooked us up some delicious apple pie beverage for the hard deck. It all started out with the normal ingredients ready to get things warm & mixed up

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG137.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG137.jpg.html)

after a little cooking time in the kitchen of choice for all of us man cavers, the beverage cooking was on

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG138-1.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG138-1.jpg.html)

We got our brew nice and warm & Luckily for us we had few home brewers that were able to help us cool our pots in no time

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG140-1.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG140-1.jpg.html)

So on to the bottling stage we made it

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG141.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG141.jpg.html)

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG147.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG147.jpg.html)

Me and fishon1's pie consisted of 2 pots. The 1st was the normal 1gal. juice, 1gal. cider, 3 cups white sugar, 8 cinnamon sticks and 1 ltr. everclear.  2nd pot was 1gal. juice, 1gal. cider, 1 1/2 cups white sugar, 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 3 Tbls vanilla extract, and of course 1ltr. of everclear. Both these batches turned out delicious with 1st taste and after a little shelf time will get even better. This is our final product yield for our 1st get to gether for personal use and christmas gifts

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG148.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG148.jpg.html)

and this is what jokingly can happen after too much apple pie. lol

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG150.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG150.jpg.html)

Good time getting together with some good friends for a day of cooking up some delicious apple pie beverage

(http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee399/muskyon46/IMG144.jpg) (http://s1225.photobucket.com/user/muskyon46/media/IMG144.jpg.html)

tightlines and happy brewing

You guys better bring football pads and helmets to the bash this year! When the fish were biting last year, some of the guys falling hard on the ice made me hurt for you. ;D  I might have to come down and be a designated catcher. Enjoy!

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: you would think that it wouldn't be, but we're good to go. The state is starting to loosen-up a bit on the alcohol laws especially where it involves tourism. Now if we could just get in on the lottery and a football team. LOL never

Do you have to cool it before you put it in the canning jars?
Or put it in hot so it seals the lids?
Can you use Vodka since we don't have EC out here...

It is delicious dom, you need to cool it before you add the alcohol so it don't burn it off. You can either wait or do it the rapid way with a coil. With the amount we were cooking up that was the only way to go. I would suggest using the pasturized cider and juice also. It looks sooooo much better for the final product. The unpasteurized stuff has a lot of cloudiness to it and apple floaties from the cider. Im pretty sure on the thread in the hard water cuisine section they do use vodka. Just try to find the strongest stuff there is. You guys haven't got any of the new moonshines hitting the market up there yet? There are a few here now but I cant remember the names, they even come in the mason jars at the liquor store

So you cook everything and add the booze after it cools?
How long does it last in the canning jars???
Sorry for all the dumb questions but I would like to make a small batch for our spring trip....

Yep. Cook it all up, cool and add the booze. When you jar it you can seal the jars the same as if you were jarring fruit or jams if you like. I didnt. Then just keep it some place cool till your ready to enjoy. I have mine in the beverage fridge in the man cave. With the amount of liquor in it I am guessing it should last for quite awhile. Maybe. We have been enjoying more and more around here every weekend  ;D

Yea, I've read posts where some guys have had their Pie sitting around for a year plus with no problems in non-sealed jars.  As always certain precautions should be taken though.  I noticed that when I jarred mine that it still had just enough heat to seal the Jar slighty it seamed.   Vodka has quite a bit less alc content than the Everclear obviously, so definately want to make sure to store in a cool place.

I've only heard stories of how good it is. Never seen it brewed or sampled any, will have to keep my eyes on the forums and hopefully get in on the next brew.

Cheers

It is good stuff, you just have to take it easy and not over do it in one night or you wont remember the night. But I wouldn't know anything about that

You have to try it with real shine. Corn alcohol is alot smoother than grain alcohol IMO. Only problem with most the shine at the liquor store is its only 100 proof so it takes alot more to make a batch. If you wanted to make legit pie you would have to find an alternate source for your shine so EC is the next best thing in this state.  :-\

wow looks like you are a 100% better than some of the moonshinners  @)some can't even make strawberries into a tasty drink.     looks like you guys had a great time and made you some hot apple pie that will keep you warm even if you don't have a tent in the cold wind.

One question I know you will probably want to send me hate mail for alcohol abuse.    Can you pour that stuff in your hole to keep it from freezing? ;D    Sorry I just had to ask sounds like its tasty but I have to stick to the coke and pepsi  ;D

At 190 proof im guessing it might do more than keep the hole thawed  :roflmao: and to be honest with you some mornings I wish I had just stuck to straight cola too

;D ha ha I bet that sounds like the dream the night before turns into a nightmare in the morning for sure.     I think we could sell that stuff at the race track better than the NOS  ;D
