tactics and setups for bass
« on: Dec 25, 2013, 01:40 PM »
I am looking to target some nice size bass this winter in between my big fishing trips.i would like to know what jigs or spoons and maybe colors work best for bass.i have caught them in the past in open water but not sure what to use to get them to bite on through the ice.any help would be great.thanks

Normally a spoon like a Swedish pimple or Hali tipped with a maggot will work or a dropper rig
My best lure is a small jigging rapala, but don't tip it
They seem to like constant movement

I agree with young outdoorsman....if you want to see an example of the rapala jigging rig and other bass blasters..look at the end of pastor b's video.....although you can catch a bass during the entire day....I think the timing of the day will increase your likelihood of catching a hog....an hr before sunset.. is a time not to be missed...good luck!!!!

Even though I don't target them I always seem to catch them and usually some big ones (one about 6 pounds last week on a jig) I would say if I was trying to catch them lindy darters and rattling flyers have always produced bass as by catch when crappie and perch fishing. If you want them on tip ups just set up
Near weedlines in shallow to about 15 feet of water with large shiners. We get some
Slobs on big white suckers while pike fishing usually

I have upped my big bass numbers on the jig when I started using Chubby Darters. I suggest the larger ones, they hit the small ones but the hooks are to small.
