What's your favorite color?
« on: Nov 21, 2005, 12:22 PM »
What would be your favorite color for gills and crappie?, and what color would you use for different lighting conditions?, mine would probably be- glow in the dark for very low light, and blue or purple for bright conditions, and maybe green or red for medeium light. and if I just can't get a bite I try dry flies or a white jig.
if your not walking on water, then you're not icefishing!

Blood red.  Doesn't make any sense, because everything I read tells me that red isn't visible below about 7' below the surface and would just look grey to the fish  ???.  Don't know why, but it works for me.  Second choices would be dark blue, brown, purple, and black in no particular order.  This is in anything from 20' to 2' visibility.  Bright, florescent, and glow colors are recommended by enough good fisherman (including many on this site) that I won't dismiss them, but I just don't have any luck with them.

Chartreuse, red, orange, but you've got to be flexible, cause sometimes "old reilable," isn't.

I almost always start with gold.  After that it's usually brown, blue, black, or chartruese in no particular order.

I match my color to the body of water I'm fishing, time of year, feed patterns of the fish, ect. For instance, fishing lake X which has a good 6' visability, mid-winter, I'd fish smaller white (glow) jigs, and maybe naturals like gold and silver. Around dark I'll switch over to bigger baits in black, glow, or chartruse.  Now on the other hand, if I'm fishing lake Z with cloudy water, later in the year, I'm using the biggest, loudest colored lures I can find. Bright Orange, Pink, Chartruse. For me, this has definetly payed off especially where you can find warm run-off water coming into a lake. But if I'm on a new lake with decent water color, I'll fish with purple everytime.

I like whatever color the fish are bitting on on a given day.  Gold on dark days and
silver on bright days.  Chartrusse on some lakes pink or orange on others.  Ask the
fish what they want.  Too many choices for us fishermen.

Will usually start with Chartreuse/Orange or Chartreuse/Green, if not producing I'll go to Whites. I have one lake we fish that blue is the ticket and another where purple will usually get you bit. Ya have ta experiment a little.
